Scotland / How very odd (not request for help)
« on: Friday 04 September 20 21:37 BST (UK)  »
Going back over my family history an filling in blanks and came across something I'd missed

I've done many trips to Hobkirk parish church and never noticed that a name on a grave stone isn't who it says the person in the grave, Quite often I know you get a few years out on occasions which happens, but anyone else came across a grave where its a totally different person. a person who lived a full life got married and had a family

I have a family member aged just nine when she died, who has been laying in a grave for 160 years under her sisters name, as memorial stones are not in some cases done for years after burials, but sometimes I think people years ago did this on purpose just to confuse people like us later on, thankfully there is a burial record

I am gutted for the little girl who has been forgotten.   Well I haven't forgotten you Helen Rutherford who died in 1860 of a seizure (something in common)

The Lighter Side / just want to say
« on: Tuesday 25 August 20 07:35 BST (UK)  »
hi
Been back here for a few weeks now and I really want to say how much I missed the community here

I am a bit saddened to see a lot of my friends no longer use the site

Ive been looking at all my posts and replies and feel proud I helped many people, unfortunately my work had to take precedence over genealogy

I had meet ups with a few of you

So What I am getting at is I am pleased I came back, still the best forum of its type

Thank you

Down / Anyone heard of a Bonchester Neills Hill, or Mill nr Belfast
« on: Sunday 23 August 20 19:09 BST (UK)  »
My Family stems from Bonchester Bridge in Scotland, and two of my ancestors went to Belfast, one was a woollen manufacturer (I thought that was a sheep) and I have seen an address on a birth and death record as 'Bonchester Neills Hill' or 'Mill' in Belfast (down)

I wonder if my relative was or had set up a textile business, and named a mill after his home

Ideas???

Down / Lost Rutherford's in Victoria part of Down
« on: Saturday 22 August 20 17:29 BST (UK)  »
Ello

Ive lost a section of my family who were last seen on the 1911 census of (Victoria) Down Ireland

A john burns Rutherford born Scotland 1863 married to Jane also Scotland 1869
he was a blacksmith @ Workman and Clark Shipbuilders in Belfast where he had four daughters:

Jane Born Belfast circa 1897
Agnes Born Belfast circa 1900
Effie Born Belfast circa 1906
Elizabeth Born circa 1910

According to my searches they were at Evelyn Avenue, Pottinger, Down, Ireland in 1901 census, and in 1911 Oakland Avenue, Victoria (part of), Down, Ireland, and thats all I have

Bit of a mystery why he worked in Belfast, all the children born Belfast, working Belfast but living in Pottinger, Down

Durham / The Royal Sun (Rutherfords) public house in Crook, Co Durham
« on: Monday 17 August 20 04:08 BST (UK)  »
A long shot here

The Royal Sun Pub in Crook, Was once ran by my great Uncle Alexander B Rutherford, circa 1900, I have came across some very faded photos of the pub, both as the Royal Sun circa 1970, and when it was called Rutherfords

I dont suppose any one has any photos of the pub when it was “Rutherfords” the faded copy I have looks like a copy of a copy, of a copy, on it it has a man standing outside, who I suspect is my great uncle

Or can point me to a local history site in that area

Roxburghshire / Rutherford/Beattie/Stevenson
« on: Monday 10 August 20 12:27 BST (UK)  »
Well hello its good to be back after years away

Covid lockdown made me pick up the tree again, and doing well, however now looking for information on the maternal side of Thomas Rutherford (blacksmith Bonchester Bridge) his mother was a Bettie Beattie, and her mother also Betty was a Stevenson, no info on her father other than he must have been a Beattie,
My Thomas must have been born out of wedlock as he was originally baptised Beattie one year after his birth, and there seems to have been a court decision on the paternity of him.  however I know that
Bettie Stevensons father I am lead to believe was the local Laird

Anyone with information
