Ayrshire / Rae Family St Quivox
« on: Friday 01 November 13 00:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hi am and trying to trace my direct maternal line back further.  I am back to a Margaret Paterson who was married to Robert Rae (no idea when cant find the marriage)

They had children in St Quivox

Elizabeth abt 1814 (can't find her birth/baptism but I know from her death they are her parents)
Agnes born 1818
James born 1821
martha born 1823
James born 1825
Martha born 1828

seeing they used the names Martha and James twice I guess James born 1821 died before 1825 and Martha born 1823 died before 1828.

I have no idea when either Robert or Margaret were born.

Their daughter Elizabeth married John Anderson

Essex Lookup Requests / Dempsey, Hart, Rennie

My Grandfather Victor Frank Dempsey was born Auberon St  Silvertown  1919 his parents were Eleanor Hart and Owen Dempsey.  Have a fair bit of information on his mother Eleanor (who was previously married to Charles Adair Rennie before marrying Owen Dempsey in March 1918.  Woolwich

Eleanor parents, Thomas Alexander Hart and Elizabeth Cornforth ran the Mariner's Arms on Albert Rd.  Her sister Matilda married Albert George Pope, a lot of the Popes worked for the Keillers.  Thomas Alexander Hart's father was John Alexander Fustic Hart and he was a Mulatto born in Jamaica 1774, would love to find out more on this branch also.  Thomas was born in Gloucester 1830

Charles Adair Rennie's father was John McDonald Rennie born Marylebone abt 1829, am unsure if any connection to the John Rennie who had something to do with London Bridge, I can't find John on any census's before 1871.

The main person I'm looking for information on is Owen Dempsey, his name may also be Harold Owen Dempsey or Henry Owen Dempsey, think he was born about 1876.  According to Eleanor and Owen's marriage certificate his fathers name was Richard Henry Dempsey who worked WBC I am guessing this may be Woolwich Borough Council????

Owen served in WW1 both in RFA and AVC (British Army Veterinary Corps)
We know nothing else on him and would like to find out more if possible.

My Grandfather never knew his father Owen as after my grandfathers mother,  Eleanor died in 1921 when my grandfather was only about 2 and a half his father cleared out and as far as I am aware my grandfather never saw him again :-(  My Grandfather was raised by his mother's sister Matilda Pope (nee Hart)

If any one knows anything of Owen Dempsey I'd love to hear from you, I have tried to find him on census's but nothing, have found a few but am fairly certain they are not him.

Or if any names ring a bell I am happy to swap info

« on: Thursday 14 April 11 05:33 BST (UK)  »
Simon Coghlan (not sure on exact spelling it varies so much) and Kate Obrien were my ggg grand parents.  Simon was a farmer

their daughter Bridget Catherine Coughlin was born in Miltown Malbay  abt 1862 (going by her death certificate).
She came to Australia and married Alfred Folder in Maytown (that is or rather was up near Cooktown) in Qld 1882

I believe she had a brother John who was born 25 Jun 1866 in Miltown Malbay.  Found him familysearch.org, same parents and same town born so one just assumes :-)

Is anyone connected to these people?  Would like more info this is all I have.

« on: Wednesday 13 April 11 16:04 BST (UK)  »
So is anyone else on here connected to the Green Family of Tarbolton?  A lot of them were Joiners.  I am beginning to wonder are my mother and I the only ones searching this family? Though I doubt it

William Green and Elizabeth Hunter

children

Mary born 1802  (looks like birth entry says Mary green lawful daughter of William Green and Elizabeth Hunter in Carngillan ?? was baptized 9th January.  Was or is there such a place or estate as Carngillan in Tarbolton?
Isabella born 1812 (married William Pitt)
Hugh born 4 Nov 1807 Tarbolton (looks like Burnhouse Hall) (if that is Burnhouse Manor Hotel I have found via google all I can say is WOW)  he married Margaret Mcghee

Hugh and Margaret are my 3rd great grandparents

I have no other information on William Green and Elizabeth Huinter :-(  oh except that William was a ploughman / farm servant

Ayrshire / McGhee
« on: Wednesday 13 April 11 00:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi am am trying to find more information on my 4x Great Grand parents James Mcghie  and Jane (or Jean) Miller (or Millar)

their marriage in Tarbolton 1802 reads

James MGie of this parish and Jean Miller of Stair Parish gave in their names for pre-clamation 3 ? and were married 16th July

they had a daughter Margaret MGhee in St Quivox (according to census) who married Hugh Green 1835 in Tarbolton.
Margaret's death certificate in 1900 lists her father as a farm grieve (deceased)

there is many different spellings of the name McGhie including McKay etc etc.  I don't know when they were born or when they died if they stayed in Ayrshire or anything.  Any help would be appreciated

other children I have found on family search who may be children to James and Jean are

James McGhie 1804 Ayr
Jean McGie 1802 Ayr (christened Symington)

thanks :-)
