New Zealand Resources & Offers / OFFER: Waikumete Cemetery Photos (Auckland)
« on: Friday 25 September 20 02:42 BST (UK)  »
Hello! I am back again, with oodles of time on my hands for genealogy now, thanks to some random event which seems to be happening world-wide.  ??? :P

I am intending to visit Waikumete Cemetery hopefully next week, if not, the week after, so thought I would put out an offer for anyone looking for photos. Give me a bell here, or make a request on Find A Grave, and I will do my very best to find and photograph the graves for you.

Please give as much detail as possible! Waikumete is a very large cemetery to walk through, so any information to make finding the graves as easy as possible is appreciated.

Cheers!

New Zealand Completed Requests / McLeod - Waikumete Cemetery Headstone Lookup
« on: Thursday 14 July 16 04:54 BST (UK)  »
Hallo all!

It has been a wee while.

I have been to Waikumete Cemetery half a dozen times now, searching for my Great, great grandfather Angus Kenneth McLeod, who is supposedly buried there. Alas, I have not managed to find his gravestone, even with council records giving me a location (Plot: Anglican Division E Row 7, Plot 87).

I have wondered for a few years now why he was in Auckland at all, when the entirety of his family were sensibly together down in Woodville.

Here's the link to the find-a-grave listing I created for him a few years ago:

https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=85661348

Birth:    1853
Nova Scotia, Canada
Death:    Aug. 30, 1918
Auckland, New Zealand

He married in Kumeroa (so again, nowhere near Auckland!), and as mentioned above, his entire family stayed down the southern end of the North Island. His wife died in 1924, and is buried in Woodville. So, why was he up here, and why is he buried alone?

If someone manages to find him, or can point me in the right direction on a map (we got a bit confused as to what rows were what the last couple of times we went), I should be most grateful!

Cheery  :D

Ayrshire / Looking for a grave photo New Cumnock Old Cemetery
« on: Thursday 31 December 15 09:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hello! Long time no see.
I'm getting back in to my Mitchell research, and was wondering whether anyone living near the New Cumnock Old Cemetery would be willing to nab a photo of a grave for me. I am all the way over in New Zealand, so it's a tad difficult to get a photo, otherwise I surely would! :-)

The plot number is 13473 and the transcription on the grave reads:
Erected John Mitchell, Lochingerroch 7.4.1886 83, In memory of father Hugh 4.9.1835 80, mother Jane Dunn 1.11.1853 70, brother William 9.2.1811 3, sister Jane 10.12.1819 14, sister Margaret 18.12.1820 20, son Ellen 19.2.1855 35, son Hugh 28.2.1886 39, wife Jane McCormick 15.9.1895 74, daughter Jessie 31.10.1922 67.

I would absolutely love a photo! Happy to look up any ancestors of yours who may be buried in Ayrshire, as I have a 3 month subscription with AyrshireAncestors.com.

Thanks!

Ayrshire / Hugh MITCHELL m. Jean DUNN New Cumnock?
« on: Friday 28 March 14 09:01 GMT (UK)  »
Evening all  :)

Going through my Mitchell tree tonight, and am stuck on these two people.

I know nothing about either of them other than their names.
Their son, John Mitchell, was born in 1802 in New Cumnock and he inherited (I believe) a farm called Lochingerroch/Lochingarroch. I have the will of John Mitchell (well, the Scotland's People transcription of it) and it gives the farm name.

For Hugh Mitchell, I happened to find a tax return for the years 1797-98 for a horse tax where he owed/paid 2 shillings. The place name beside his own name is given as Lochingerroch.

Hugh and Jean had other children:

Helen b. c. 1798
Margaret b. c. 1800
Jean b. c. 1805
Agnes b. c. 1812

I think there is one other male child, but not 100% certain.

The son John married a Jane/Jean McCormick (b. 1822) and they had 12 children. John died in 1886.

If you can help me at all, I would be well chuffed!

Thanks  ;D

Flintshire / Charlotte DODD nee PARRY death records
« on: Thursday 12 December 13 22:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all . . .

It has been quite a long time since I was on here, the present day has kept me far, far too busy. Hopefully now with Christmas coming up I can delve back in to the past for awhile.

I am looking for a burial record for Charlotte Dodd, formerly Parry.
She  was born c. 1838 and died in 1878. She was married to Charles Dodd (b. 1835, d. 1900)

1871 Census has her and the family living at the telegraph station in Prestatyn, township as Gronant.

Any clues would be marvelous, thank you :P

Trying to make out where my GG-Grandparents George and Christiana were living in 1911. I can't seem to get it right, Google hasn't heard of any of the place names I've tried, at least!

Many thanks for the help!

Technical Help / COMPLETED Can't download GEDCOM off Ancestry!
« on: Thursday 09 February 12 09:21 GMT (UK)  »
I've been trying for what must be three days now to download my GEDCOM from Ancestry to my computer as I tend to do every time I spend a few hours working on the tree (JIC!)

When I go to download from my 'Kennett Family Tree' it acts like it's about to download but then doesn't.

" Generating a GEDCOM file...
(0% completed)
This could take some time, but your export will continue to process even if you leave this page. Once it's finished, a button will appear here allowing you to download your GEDCOM file."

It starts at 0%, works its way up to 1% and then drops again and stays like that until I leave the page. If I return to the page to try again, it goes back to 1% and drops to 0% again.

I have tried in both Google Chrome and IE8, logging out of Ancestry and logging in again, restarting my laptop and trying again, using a separate desktop computer on a different internet network to no avail.

I e-mailed Ancestry the day I started experiencing this problem and all they've said is "they appreciate my e-mail, and hope to have it fixed soon, and have they sorted my problem for me?" ::)

I can download the other three trees I have online with ease, it's just this one that's being a pain in the behind (of course it's the most important one!).

If anyone could tell me if there's a way to download the GEDCOM by other means, or perhaps a way to actually get Ancestry to do something about it?? ;) ;D I'd be grateful!
