Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Margarett Rees
« on: Tuesday 12 August 14 17:49 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for a Margarett Rees born about 1640. I found the baptism for one that fits the time frame on the Mormon Church Family Search website whose father was Rees Evan and the location was St. Thomas, Swansea, Glamorgan. We have her Bible - written in Welsh - and it has her name handwritten and dated 1712, a couple years before she died, that has been handed down through the family all these years. I am wondering if there is a place I can find out if this family ever left Glamorgan for the American colonies sometime between her birth and 1660.
Thank you!

Thanks for your help.

Essex / Whitmore family of Braintree
« on: Wednesday 03 October 12 19:06 BST (UK)  »
I have found that my John Whitmore was (possibly, hopefully) from Braintree Essex. He was supposedly born there 6 Jan 1592. Does anyone know of a Whitmore family in Essex back in the 17th century?
Thanks for your help!

Shropshire / Whitmore/Whittemore of Claverly
« on: Monday 24 September 12 11:13 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for information on the Whitmore or Whittemore family that lived at Claverly - in particular, Francis Whitmore born about 1625. There are a few different lineages for him online but with no documentation. The closest thing I could find is a Francis Whitmore, son of Nicholas Whitmore, baptized in 1629 (he would have been 4 years old) according to an extract from the church book of Hitchin, Herts. but I found earlier generations of Whitmores at Claverly. He came to America and settled in Massachusetts where he signed an affadavit stating he was born in 1625 and was married to Isabel Parke in 1648. There is some evidence he was a Puritan if that helps.
Does anyone have any suggestions where I could look for documentation on this family?
Thanks!

Hertfordshire / Whitmore/Whittemore of Hitchin

I am looking for information on the Whittemore family of Hitchin - in particular, Francis Whitmore born 1623-1625. There are a few different lineages for him online but with no documentation. The closest thing I could find is a Francis Whitmore, son of Nicholas Whitmore, baptized in 1629 according to an extract from the church book of Hitchin. He came to America and settled in Massachusetts where he signed an affadavit stating he was born in 1625 - unfortunately he didn't say "where" in England he was born.
Does anyone have any suggestions where I could look for documentation on this family?
Thanks!

England / Church in England in 1600
« on: Thursday 23 August 12 21:55 BST (UK)  »
I have no knowledge whatsoever about Britain's churches so can anyone tell me if it would be possible/likely/impossible, etc. for a little boy born about 1625 to not be baptized until 1629? This would have been at Hitchin, Hertsfordshire if that makes a difference.
Thanks !

Essex Lookup Requests / Markham - Collins in Essex
« on: Sunday 05 June 11 15:22 BST (UK)  »
I suspect my James Markham was from another place but he married Martha Collins 11 Oct 1632 at Earls Colne in Essex according to the Parish Records there. I am looking for both of their parents. There was a Deacon Edward Collins who came to America that is somehow related to Martha as she and James Markham are mentioned in his will. Does anyone know anything about these people?

« on: Saturday 28 May 11 21:04 BST (UK)  »
I have seen somewhere that my 9th great grandparents are buried in the cemetery at St. Andrews Church of Earls Colne. I have seen the parish records but am looking for the inscription on their headstone/monument(s). Is anyone able to look this up for me? I have spent hours online looking for MI there but have found nothing.
James Markham (died Feb 1679) and Martha, his wife (died March 1668/69). Thanks so much ad best wishes from Knoxville TN USA.
