Scotland / Philomena Stew
« on: Saturday 07 March 20 17:44 GMT (UK)  »
Hello.  I am looking to find information about the family of Philomena Stew, married to James Bradley.
She was born in Bridgeton, Glasgow in 1925.  She was a twin, sister's name Audrey.  There are no entries for the name Stew in the 1911 census.  Much earlier, in the 1700s, the name Stew appears in Perthshire and then seems to disappear.  I would be obliged for any information or at least a steer in the right direction.  Thank you isk

Scotland / Archibald McAllister born Lochgilphead 1859
« on: Saturday 17 August 19 17:48 BST (UK)  »
Good afternoon.  I am feeling really guilty to be here asking for help once again without having offered any recently.
But here goes anyway.  I have the Birth Certificate entry for Archibald McAllister at Lochgilphead, Glassary on 29 March 1859 and also his twin Alexander McAllister.  Father: Donald McAllister, a Tinsmith, Mother: Catherine or Catharine Stewart.  Moving forward 2 years Alexander appears with the family on the 1861 Census at Lochgilphead but not Archibald.  I expected to find a Death Certificate for him, between 1859 and 1861 but there does not appear to be one.  In fact I can find nothing more about this child and I am struggling as to what to try next. I am able to trace the other family members through Census, Marriages and Deaths but Archibald is eluding me.
I would be very grateful for any suggestions or help.  isk

Scotland / Revd. G C MacKenzie Grieve
« on: Tuesday 16 July 19 15:41 BST (UK)  »
I would be pleased to have any information regarding the Revd. G.C. MacKenzie Grieve.  All the information I have is that he was Minster of Culter/Coulter Parish Church, Lanarkshire in 1954.  I have tried, both Scotland's People and Family Search, without success and even a scan of the Fasti is not showing any information.  Any information will be received with an enormous thank you.  isk

Scotland / Frederick Kirk born Kilbirnie 1872
« on: Tuesday 29 January 19 21:17 GMT (UK)  »
Good evening everyone.  I am looking for a little help finding the death of Frederick Kirk, born on 6 March 1872 at Kilbirnie.  Father: John Kirk Mother: Margaret Steel.  I can trace him as far as 1902 with all his information from Govan Combination Poorhouse Records, when he was aged 30 years.  It would appear that he was a bit of a nomad and used both his father's name Kirk and his mother's name Steel or Steele. I cannot find a Death Certificate, nor an entry on the 1911 census under either surname.  I will be very grateful for any help or suggestions.  Thank you.  isk

Scotland / William Jardine and Elizabeth McKellar
« on: Wednesday 21 November 18 22:52 GMT (UK)  »
Good evening.  I am in the throes of drawing up a family tree for three nephews, for Christmas. I am delighted that as they have reached their thirties and forties and have families of their own, they and my own sons have become more interested in the family story.   I have come to a fairly large wall with William Jardine, born Mudies Land, Kirkintilloch on 27 February 1864 to Peter Grant Jardine and Elizabeth Stark.  He married Elizabeth McKellar, born Kirkintilloch 5 May 1864, at Kirkintilloch on 25 September 1885. They have a son, Peter Grant Jardine, born 24 June 1886 at Kirkintilloch.  On the 1891 census William, Elizabeth and Peter, aged 4, are living at 7 Ruchill Street, Glasgow (Barony Parish, Quod Sacra Maryhill)  William is an Iron Moulder.  I can find no further trace of the family and I wonder if anyone can help.  The very prolific Jardine family has been a joy to research as many of them remained in Kirkintilloch but William and Elizabeth have escaped me and I would greatly appreciate any help.  Thank you in anticipation.  isk

Aberdeenshire / Henderson Logan born Ballater 1823
« on: Wednesday 18 July 18 17:21 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone can help with more information about Henderson Logan born 30 July 1823 in Ballater to William Logan a Watchmaker and Christian or Christine Keith.  He does not appear on the 1841 census with his parents and apart from his birth in the Old Parish Register I cannot find anything further.  With such an unusual name I thought he would be easy to follow but I guess he probably died before 1855.  Thank you in advance for any information.  isk

Scotland / Harriet/Harriot Clyne baptised at Peterhead 1850
« on: Friday 25 May 18 21:59 BST (UK)  »
Hello.  I am looking for information regarding Harriet/Harriot Clyne baptised at Peterhead on 27 April 1850 Father: James Clyne Mother: Jean Bruce. Her Birth Record was found on OPR  Apart from possibleentries as a Domestic Servant at addresses in Maryculter in 1871 and Rubislaw in 1881 I cannot find any further information.  Her father James Clyne died in 1852 and her mother, Jean/Jane Bruce, then married John Garden at St Fergus, Banffshire on 25 May 1854.  Harriet's brother James Clyne emigrated first to Canada where he married Lydia Johns on 7 July 1875 at Wellington, Ontario, Canada. It would appear that they divorced and he married Joan Soutter in USA before returning to Scotland where he died in Aberdeen on 19 May 1913.  Any information on Harriet's life would be very much appreciated.  isk
