Antrim / John Robinson and Charlotte Queen marriage - Belfast - September 1866
« on: Wednesday 01 December 21 21:03 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all.

I've been searching for my ancestors John Robinson and Charlotte Quinn's marriage information for a lifetime - and I've finally found a marriage that looks correct - same names/correct ages/professions all seem right except - my family are from Tyrone and I know this couple raised their children and died outside Caledon.

Is there perhaps a viable reason they were in Belfast at this point in time? Did they go to Belfast for work and marry there before later returning to Tyrone?

Or am I being extremely naive and making this fit?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Ben

Hi,

Looking to find some marriage information between a John and Sarah Graham from Eden/The Vow. Their son my great-great grandfather Robert Graham was born about 1874 but sadly I cannot find any more information. I am especially interested if I can find out Sarah's maiden name.

Thanks for any help.

Derry (Londonderry) / Thomas Gray, Aghadowey
« on: Saturday 12 January 19 22:09 GMT (UK)  »
Wondering where I would look for records in Burma during WW2. I’ve had a look through my usual sources but can’t find anything.

I am looking on behalf of my mother’s cousin, she told me her father had a half-brother called Thomas Gray, who died in Burma during the war. She was looking for any available information, however I’m at a loss.

As it is only my family by marriage I’m not sure much about him. All I know is that Thomas Gray died in Burma during the war. His half-brother was my great uncle by marriage, Samuel Crothers and as far as I know they were from Blackhill in Aghadowey.

Any help or direction will be as appreciated as ever!

Thanks

Monaghan / Sturgeons of Enagh/Annagh, Monaghan

Hi all,

Think I’ve made my first connection across the Irish border and was wondering if anyone had any research assistance. I generally use PRONI to find my family but as this individual is in Monaghan I’m not too sure, and I haven’t discovered enough about her to even make sure she is indeed a relative.

The connection is a Mary Sturgeon born to a Jeremiah Sturgeon in around Enagh/Anagh, near Emyvale. She married a James Patten/Patton on 10th October 1845 in Aghaloo, Tyrone. Presuming this is the correct couple, they are my 4th great grandparents through their daughter Phoebe. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Derry (Londonderry) / McFadden and McCaughey/McCahon - Aghadowey
« on: Tuesday 13 February 18 23:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all, I've been looking into my McFaddens of Aghadowey ancestry again and I want to see if what I've put together makes sense to anyone or any being!

My GG Grandfather Robert McFadden married Sarah Grissam on 19/9/1891 Aghadowey COI.
I know from their marriage cert that Robert's father is Hugh McFadden and I looked on PRONI for YEARS for Robert's birth certificate and never found anything until recently one appeared for a Robert McFadden, son of Hugh McFadden and Elizabeth McCaughey, in the Ballymoney area, which makes sense to me because my grandmother always told me her grandfather was from County Antrim.

However I have since found a marriage certificate for a Hugh McFadden and an Elizabeth McCahon in Garvagh Presbyterian for 17/3/1855, and it seems to fit, Hugh is a blacksmith (like it says on McFadden/Grissam marriage certificate) and they both live in Mullaghinch, Aghadowey. Which fits into my family well.

What puts a spanner in my works is why the family began in Garvagh and Mullahinch, to end up in Ballymoney - seems to be near Dervock from what I can understand - to return to Aghadowey? There's also a change in Elizabeth's maiden name, only slightly, from McCahon to McCaughey - I'm telling myself that in those days certain spellings weren't strictly adhered too, but I also am starting to think I'm just telling myself this to make this story fit.

If anyone could advise or put me out of my misery altogether it would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Derry (Londonderry) / Looking for McAfee/Millican grave, poss Aghadowey
« on: Saturday 21 October 17 19:09 BST (UK)  »
Hi all, wondering if anyone could help me find the graves of my great-great grandparents John McAfee and Lily Millican (sometimes spelt Milliken)? She was born in Englishtown area, 15/9/1906 and he was born 24/08/1906 Crossgare, Drumcroon.

I'm assuming the graves would be in a churchyard in the vicinity of Aghadowey, like all of my family's, but I don't know where to look as the family is religiously mixed, John and Lily married in the registry office in Coleraine, and John's parents were married in St Guaire's, despite his father being Roman Catholic.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Donegal / McFaddens of Calhaine
« on: Friday 10 March 17 18:16 GMT (UK)  »
Always thought my McFadden ancestors originated in County Derry, but have noticed that my great-great grandfather has listed "Calhaine" as his residence on his marriage certificate, which I believe to be near Killybegs in Donegal but I am not 100%.

His name is Robert McFadden, a scutcher married to Sarah Grissim on 19th September 1891, his father is listed as Hugh McFadden, and he was married in a church of Ireland parish church in Aghadowey, County Derry.

I know there are a lot of McFaddens in Donegal, but if anyone has any possible leads about a Calhaine branch could they send them my way!

Thanks

Ben

Derry (Londonderry) / McCloskey/Gault
« on: Wednesday 01 March 17 18:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hello, wondering if anyone can help me.

I've had a copy of my great-great grandparents birth certificate for quite some time now, and I've only just noticed that it lists my grandfather's condition at time of marriage as 'widower' something I never heard tell of! I have searched high and low and have been unable to find a previous marriage for my GG grandfather, David McCloskey!

Any help would be appreciated if anyone else has any records!

They are David McClosky and Bella Gault, m 10th May 1917 at Macosquin Presbyterian

She is Isabella Gault, of Castleroe, Coleraine

I have him as David McCloskey, b 4th July 1890 around Ballykelly/Limavady to John McCloskey and Susan McCloskey nee Davison.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Tyrone / Pattons of Aughnasallagh
« on: Tuesday 13 September 16 00:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi guys, I've reached a conundrum and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to where to go next!

My grandmother's uncle Joseph Little died in 1957, and as they dug the grave at Minterburn Presbyterian church, they found a lead coffin, and it was discovered that it contained the remains of his grandmother's sister who was apparently a great traveller and had died either abroad or at sea and returned home. So it is widely believed in the family that the surname of this lady was Patton, as she was apparently the sister of my great-great-great grandmother Phoebe Little née Patton (born around 1853)(married William Little in 1882). According to my ggg grandparents wedding certificate, their father would have been a James Patton.

I can't find any record of this lady online, she seems to have been born before PRONI records began, and I have searched through ancestry and the northern irish records for her, but as I can't work out her name and there are many Pattons on irish passenger lists! I would love to have known where she went and why! I have also emailed the current reverend of Minterburn to see if he has access to any records, although he is yet to get back to me.

Any help will be appreciated, I'm currently scouring through old newspapers online to see if anything about her is mentioned!

Thanks everyone!
