Monaghan / John McGough Born .c. 1820
« on: Monday 26 July 21 00:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,  shot in the dark here.  I am trying to trace a John McGough who was born in Ireland around 1820 and emigrated to Canada to appear on the census in 1851.  He gave his occupation as a shoemaker.  I have his life in Canada but am drawing a blank in Ireland.  I am entering this post in Monaghan as the name seems to be quite common in the area.

I am trying to trace a John McGough who was born approx 1820 in Belfast.  His occupation was a cordonnier or shoemaker. He emigrated to Quebec Canada around 1845 and appears on the 1851 census for Quebec.  It is the Irish connection I am really after as I have most of his life in Canada.  Thanks for reading this and your help.

Dublin / McKenzie Family, Inchicore Dublin
« on: Monday 21 September 20 19:31 BST (UK)  »
I am drawing a blank with my mother's side of the family. All but one is dead. The father was James McKenzie and the mother Ellen Mary Mooney. I have 95% of the heritage for both parents but it is the children I have a problem with. Irish Genealogy is giving me a "no result" but I get that a lot. LDS search gives me one result; Teresa McKenzie, 16 Southern Cross Ave., Inchicore. The dates are Born .c. 1924 Died 3 Aug 1953. The address is good and the dates correspond to one but the name does not. I did an advanced search on irishgenealogy.ie with the surname only and the mother's name and it drew a blank. This is not possible and would also like someone's insight into why I receive this result.
What I know of the offspring;

I am 99% certain they were all born in Dublin and, beside the above address, 22 Holles St. may come into it somewhere at the earlier years.
Rita B. 1924??  Died1953
Catherine B 19 Oct 1925 D 5 Feb 2015
John B 1934??
William
James   D. 1981??  continued to live in the Inchicore house
******                  still alive in London as far as I know.

Mayo / Connor family Ballinrobe
« on: Wednesday 16 September 20 05:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi folks,
While researching my family tree, I spoke to a distant relative who told me of a gang of workers who were brought from their base in Ballinrobe, Mayo, by Elizabeth Cuffe to Pakinham Hall, Castlepollard as a gift to her new husband, Thomas Pakinham. This was in 1740. Many years ago while visiting the Kiltoom, Castlepollard area more than one elderly person retold a similar tale.
Can anyone put meat on these bones? My particular family is the Connor family, my grandfather being the last to be born in the worker's cottage on the Pakenham estate.

Offaly (Kings) / Family of Patrick Clancy, Endrim, Moyclare, Kings County
« on: Tuesday 15 September 20 22:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
I have reached a dead end as to the family of Patrick Clancy. He was born 1857 in Kilpatrick, (Tullamore District) but took over a farm in Endrim (Parsonstown). He had three children with a Mary McEntire according to the 1901 census, John and Maggie who appear to be twins born circa 1877 and Elizabeth born March 5th 1880 in Endrim. I cannot find anything about the mother except she appears on Elizabeth's birth cert., nor can I find any certs at all for the twins. All of the children and the mother have disappeared by the 1911 census. Patrick married an Annie Phelan on 15th May 1911, the cert showing both as widowed. However, I cannot find a death cert for Mary or the children.
On the 1911 Census it shows a nephew and a niece living with Patrick. I know who these two are and where they came from. ???

I am trying to trace a John Madden who was married to Margaret Sergant and lived in Sorrel(?) Ballyhea Co. Cork at the time of his daughter's birth (Julia) in 1912.  I have no other information at this time but I am in contact with a relative who may be able to verify whatever comes up on this.  I do not have the child's birth cert yet but hopefully soon.

Angus (Forfarshire) / James McKenzie, Dundee
« on: Tuesday 27 June 17 16:58 BST (UK)  »
Hi all, First off I have to admit I do not know the geography of Scotland.  Murryfield is as far as I go and that's it.   ;)  I am looking for info on James McKenzie who I estimate was born in [+-]1860.
His father was Thomas McKenzie and mother Margaret.  As far as I know James came from or lived in Dundee.  James served in the military from 1881 to 1915 and was posted in Forfarshire Rga. but I was informed by our friends in the military section that the rga reference is wrong.  What I do know is he ended his service in Beggars Bush Barracks in Dublin.  He married a Catherine (Kate) Dorman on Sept 8 1878.  She was from Ireland.
Any help in building up an image of this family would be of great help.  I am interested in the Scottish side of this only as I have the full family who remained in Dublin.

Armed Forces / James McKenzie Forfarshire regiment
« on: Monday 26 June 17 16:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi,  I have tried this a number of years ago and got nowhere but I have new info so letīs have another go!   ;D  I would like to find out about my Scottish side.  What I know is James McKenzie joined the Forfarshire regiment.  The date I read somewhere is 1881 but he was married to an Irish girl, Catherine (Kate) Dorman, in 1878.  I do not believe she went to Scotland but I may be wrong.
His parents were Thomas & Margaret McKenzie.  That is the extent of my info.  I would appreciate anything you can dig up, especially dates.  This is the one side of my family I know so little about.
Thanks

Gerry    :P
