In one of the family bibles I read the following inscription - "John Faulkner Day, left home for Queensland, Sep. 7th, 1874".
Home was Welford, Northants and my researching showed that he travelled from London as an assisted passenger with his newly wedded wife, Selina Catherine, on the Indus. There is an interesting article in a Brisbane newspaper about the arrival on December 26th, after three months voyage.
I found the list of passengers but what I would really love to find are details of what happened to passengers when they arrived. Were they distributed according to their professions, or were they given land? Are there any records that would provide this information?
