Sussex / Pearsons in 1839
« on: Friday 16 September 22 19:06 BST (UK)  »
I am hoping someone can help. I have found 3 siblings Thomas, Emily and Elizabeth all buried in 1839 but can't find a record for their brother John and he does not appear on the 1841 census with his parents William and Elizabeth and brother Richard. The others were buried in Ewhurst in a 3 week period between April 9th and May 2nd.

Sussex / sussex history
« on: Friday 01 June 07 22:23 BST (UK)  »
Looking for a book (if one exists) about sussex particulalrly the area around Rye and Peasmarsh in the period 1715-1771 - with particular interest in epidemics and such at that time especially 1757-1759 - I have several areas of my family living in that area and Brede at that time all losing children - i know the infant mortality rate was high but just wondered if there was something special about those 2 years??

any help would be great

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / pearson and abraham isle of wight
« on: Saturday 03 February 07 14:13 GMT (UK)  »
my mothers maternal line includes a thomas abraham born 1842 who married a Louisa jane pearson born 1853 Hammersmith - after their marriage they ran pubs in Portsmouth. have just come across a notebook from when I was about 10 and starting on family history had spoken with my grandparents about stories of the past - according to my scribbled notes from then Thomas was a footman and Louisa jane a lady's maid at Bay House on the Isle of Wight - dont know if this was before or after their marriage but I presume before - unfortunately my grandparents are dead so cannot ask anymore details - cant find them on the cesus - they married 1876 and have found 1881 but not before. wondered if anyone knew of a Bay House on the Isle of Wight or was it a common name for many places - or if anyone can find them in 1871 ?? thanks

The Common Room / anyone fancy a challenge??
« on: Tuesday 23 January 07 19:22 GMT (UK)  »
I have a stack of old photos and am determined to return some to their rightful owners ie their descendants. most are unnamed and unmarked so an impossiblity but came across one last week that I thought I might be able to track down but no luck so far
taken in 1922 (so not that old) it is of a mother, toddler and baby
someone has carefully written on the back Kenneth John born June 4th 1920 aged 1 year 11 months 2 weeks and Muriel Elsie born April 6th 1922 aged 6 weeks but unfortunately they havent included a surname - that would be too easy
given the years of birth i thought i may be able to find their births and so mothers maiden name as a cross reference but have been unable to do so - having said that my search time has been limited by three sick children
anyone with better luck with love to hear what you come up with then maybe i can reunite this picture with it's family

Essex Lookup Requests / copt hall little wigborough
« on: Friday 22 December 06 18:00 GMT (UK)  »
does anyone have access to parish records for this area? if so would be very grateful for some help with 2 matters
looking for the birth of charles jennings around 1843 in little wigborough parents joseph and mary
and also for the marriage of joseph and mary likely to be before 1830 - wonder if she may have been Mary Byford as in a later census a nephew Henry Byford is living with them - Joseph jennings was born in Purleigh and Mary in Little Wigborough - William Byford is noted as a farmer in Little Wigborough in 1848
from 1871 the jennings are living at little copt hall and are farm bailiffs
i have tried but failed to find out much about copt hall and its surroundings although did find one good picture of the main house
any help gratefully received
thanks
