Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Advice on Ancestral DNA testing
« on: Thursday 25 July 13 12:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi, my mother's grandfather was said to be adopted in the 1880s. I have traced his adopted sisters descendants and found a granddaughter. It has been suggested that my great grandfather was the natural son of his adoptive father and was absorbed into the family. Is it possible to test my mother and our distant cousin to see if there is a common ancestor? My mother lives in Australia and our "cousin" lives in New Zealand. How do I go about this? Is there any idea which test I ask for? Cost? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Armed Forces / Help needed - Chelsea pensioners
« on: Wednesday 08 May 13 08:03 BST (UK)  »
My ancestor was in the 70th regiment and was discharged in New Zealand in 1864 to pension. However in late 1867- early 1868 he left New Zealand to Kingston-on-Thames. These notes were found on his NZ pension records. Was there a military hospital in Kingston-on-Thames? Where would I find the pension records in England for this period?
Thank you for any help you may give :)

Hi my ancestor was discharged in New Zealand from the 70th Regiment. He had service in India and then New Zealand. There are notations on his records. Is anyone able to enlighten me to what they mean please? The following is a link to page 4 of George Thomas's discharge papers.

Antrim / George Thomas
« on: Tuesday 16 April 13 05:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi I'm trying to find an elusive ancestor. His name is George Thomas and he was born circa 1825 in Donaghadee, county Tyrone. He joined the 70 th regiment and ended up in New Zealand. On his papers there is an annotation on 30 August 1878 which may say death. Can anyone let me know if there is a George Thomas who died at that time in Belfast? Thank you for any help you may give.

New Zealand Completed Requests / George Thomas
« on: Monday 15 April 13 22:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi I am wondering if anyone can help. I am trying to track down an ancestor in NZ. Through the very generous community of Roots Chat I have managed to get to this point, which two years ago was a big dream. I am trying to ascertain where and when my ancestor died. I have found a death of "a" George Thomas in BDM NZ online. I closed the parameters and found that he died on 5th March 1887. Can anyone help me to find a death notice to see if it is the correct family or a cemetery where he was buried? I am happy to order certificates but would prefer to order the right ones.  :)  Thanks for any help given.  :) Tiki

England / Lost ancestor
« on: Wednesday 03 October 12 09:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi I would appreciate some help in locating my ancestor. Robert Hewitt married in 1843 in Portsmouth and died in 1854 at the age of 32 in India. He was in the British Army. His father was listed as Samuel Hewitt, a miller. Is anyone able to help locate this family? I do not know where they were from in the United Kingdom.
Thank you for any help you may give.  :)
