Argyllshire / MCINTYRE--perhaps better worded

Donald MCQUARIE  and  Elizabeth MCINTYRE

Hi all: I am trying to go backwards now I have found descendents of the original family settled in New York to all over North America Canada and beyond up until now times.I need to find out something about where we came from!?
Both my grgrgrgrandparents stated orally(and it's on tombstones)that they were born in Argyllshire,Isle of Mull,Scotland.I'm trying to look at the name game

so the first son would be called after his Dad Neil?
Now the second child was a girl and she was called Catherine. If they named accordingly then this first daughter is named after Maternal grandma. The second son is John and that should be maternal grand dad. That would make them John and Catherine MCINTYRE  maybe!!!!

Now if we continue this line of thought The second daughter Mary is after the paternal Grandma  So that would make it Neil and Mary MCQUARIE  maybe!!!!
The rest are Ann, Hugh & Elizabeth .They are supposed to be after the parents and/or after oldest siblings of parents.

I'm putting out into genealogical cyber space in hopes someday someone looking for a missing part of their family finds me. I hope it comes sooner then that though :)

Cork / Size of Barony?Dunmanway
« on: Monday 21 May 12 05:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi:   Just wondering how large is the tract of Land named Dunmanway? There are several areas including Shiplaugh and derrynasafagh  that make it up.Then there is the actual town of Dunmanway?  I have got a list of RC(Cork & Ross) marriages just wondering about family relatives in this square of land. Are the Coveney men and women getting married in these records in early 1800's brothers ?sisters? cousins?
For ones in same Townland they could be but what about distance to Shiplaugh or Cat Lane?(I think that is in Town) Their must have been more then one church?I think I seen pictures of three?? Given that transportation is horse and buggy would you travel miles to go to church. What about work some were farmers but others had businesses. Just brainstorming here?
                                                                                  Thanks   Sue P

Berwickshire / JOHNSTON
« on: Sunday 20 May 12 02:43 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone:    Seen something recently interested if anyone on here can speak to this. My times 4 grandmother Agnes Nancy JOHNSTON  left Scotland about 1774 and settled in Wash Co.,NEW YORK USA. She met on ship and later married in Wash Co.,NewYork Thomas Laing from Dumfries,Dumfrieshire ,Scotland.

Seen recently that someone had her as daughter of George JOHNSTON b. 5 or 8 of May 1715 of Eccles, Berwickshire,Scotland. d.1778 Whitsome,Berwickshire,Scotland and mother Agnes BRUCE  b.1716 Berwick Liberty of Berwickshire,Scotland d.1794 West Newton,Berwickshire,Scotland. I'm curious as to if this is really true then I have gone back two more generations and finally have some knowledge of Agnes Nancy.

George JOHSTON's parents are supposed to be Patrick JOHNSTON b.1663 Eccles, Berwickshire Scot
 died 1732 Eccles,Berwickshire Scot.and  Janet DICKSON  b 1694 Eccles,Berwickshire,Scot died 1737 Eccles same

If anyone can speak to this information or knows it in their own tree would be grateful for any confirmation Thanks                                           Sue P

Argyllshire / MCINTYRE Elizabeth
« on: Sunday 13 May 12 17:16 BST (UK)  »
Hello: I'm switching up how I have been looking for this couple.I'll try through my x3 grandmother Elizabeth MCINTYRE she was born July 21,1762 and she stated was born in Isle of Mull,Argyleshire,Scotland it's on both their tombstones. She  married my x3 grandfather Donald McQuarie(how they spelled it in NewYork,U.S.) I'm thinking they got married in early 1780's as my x2grandfather was born Dec 3 1784 same Scotland his younger sister Catherine was born in Scotland as well 15 Nov 1785.Their then in U.S 1790/91 where their third? child is born. Can I find these grandparents of mine through her or the birth of their first and second born. They are tired of being lost to me !!!!  :)    Thanks  Sue

Wexford / MURPHY / Oklamonmead?
« on: Sunday 13 May 12 14:27 BST (UK)  »
Hello:   My x3 grandmother was Catherine MURPHY  from a record of her own words her father's name was Charles MURPHY and she was born in 1812 in Oklamonmead,Wexford Co., Ireland. She was orphaned at two years of age and lived with her grandparents. In this written record she states she has two brothers whom she came to Canada with one of them was married  and lost a child to Cholera on way to Quebec. They left Dublin April 10th 1834. They ran a ground in fog near Newfoundland and where eventually all saved and taken to Halifax,Nova Scotia where she met and married John TRACEY who I only know was from Tiperary CO., Ireland unfortunately that's all I have for him.
Can I find the name of the ship from Irish side? This would give me the brothers names? Not a lot of luck on this side.   Thanks  Sue

Cork / COVENEY from Cork-Dunmanway
« on: Sunday 13 May 12 13:42 BST (UK)  »
Hello:   First I would like to thank those on here that give advice and help because reading some of them lead me to church records of what I strongly believe to be my x3greatgrandparents plus several baptisms of their children as I searched their names.
From my research here in Ont Can from distant relatives(ladies where Nuns and wrote to parish in Ireland) and census here etc I found my persons came from Dunmanway,County Cork before 1850. Family lore is that two cousins came first then the whole families(can't confirm that)but the families did come here.
In the records here my 3x grgrandparents are John COVENEY and Ellen MAHONEY on Michael COVENEY's marriage record. I found a baptism record for a Michael and these are the names for parents. It says a place called Derinasofa or Drunasofa on baptism's and Shiplock for place of parents marriage. Are these little towns? I know from reading there is a different way of naming land parcels in Ireland? Also John's brother Michael was supposedly (again with records of Nuns) married to a Ellen MAHONEY as well  The families are here close together.Their records have him being married by an O'Mahoney I believe it was. Looking for COVENEY connections   Thank-you  Sue
