Yorkshire (North Riding) / William BOWMAN & Pickering
« on: Wednesday 10 December 08 01:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

I am new to researching in Yorkshire and have absolutely no idea what is and what isn't available online but hoping that maybe someone can identify my ancestor or at least point me in the right direction.

He is William BOWMAN, a farmer, born about 1778 in Pickering, according to the 1851 census when he was widowed & living in Spalding, Lincs.

He and his wife, Ann, baptised 2 daughters, Mary & Ann in 1810 & 1814 in Spalding. When they arrived in Lincs is unknown. Ann died in 1848 so I've no idea whether she was a Yorkshire lass or not but I cannot find their marriage in Spalding or surrounding villages. Maybe they married and had other children before moving to Lincolnshire.

Is anyone researching the Bowman surname in or around Pickering? Or maybe someone can help me re Pickering records, I'm afraid there is no way I can visit Yorkshire to look for myself. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Northamptonshire / WOODCOCKs of Wakerley
« on: Wednesday 06 August 08 23:06 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace a Jane WOODCOCK who married Tobias PAWLETT in Empingham, Rutland in 1782. They lived and died in Empingham but although I've found Tobias's baptism in Rutland I cannot find a baptism for Jane in the county.

According to IGI a Jane Woodcock was baptised in Wakerley, Northants on 28 Sep 1760, d/o Thomas WOODCOCK & Elizabeth PEPPER. As Wakerley is only a few miles from Empingham I think it very likely this Jane is mine.

Other siblings appear to be John, Thomas, William, Samuel & Mary, all baptised in Wakerley where their parents married on 14 Dec 1746.

Is anyone else researching the Waverley Woodcocks and who may be able to tell me more? I was wondering whether this Jane had survived. Also whether she married another, in which case she cannot be mine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou

Brenda

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Wakerley Burial Look Up Please
« on: Wednesday 06 August 08 22:53 BST (UK)  »
According to IGI a Jane WOODCOCK, d/o Thomas & Elizabeth, was baptised in Wakerley on 28 Sep 1760 and I rather suspect she is my ancestor who married in Rutland in 1782.

Please can anyone who has access to Wakerley burial records be kind enough to check whether this Jane born 1760 did survive childhood and could have made it to Rutland when she was 22?

Thank you

Leicestershire / PALIN/PALING, Buckminster or Anywhere
« on: Friday 04 July 08 20:45 BST (UK)  »
Hello

According to IGI a George Palin married Mary Blow in Buckminster on 20 Nov 1775. They appear to have baptised 2 children in Buckminster: John on 27 May 1776 and Ann on 19 May 1777.

I have a feeling that this couple are my 4x Gt Grandparents, George & Mary Paling but cannot prove it.

My earliest found record for them is a baptism of a daughter, Ann Paling on 4 Jul 1779 in Weston, Lincolnshire although George's will states another daughter, Catherine, who must have been born before they arrived in Weston as I can find no baptism for her in Weston.

Please can anyone help me?
Can someone confirm the above marriage in Buckminster?
Or the baptisms or possible burials of their children?
Or even burials of George and/or Mary?
Or maybe someone is researching the Palin/Paling surname and can identify a George Paling born c1748?

Any help would be very gratefully received, this brick wall has been standing for years.

Thank you

Rutland Lookup Requests / Empingham Baptism Look Up Please

According to the 1851 and 1861 the censii my 3x Gt Grandfather, Thomas PAWLETT or PAULETT was born in Empingham between 1797 and 1800.

Could somebody be kind enough to look for a baptism for him please?

Any other Pawlett records found while looking for his would also be much appreciated, if that isn't being too cheeky.

Many thanks

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / 1851 0r 1861 Census Look Up Request
« on: Friday 20 June 08 10:18 BST (UK)  »
Please can someone find my 3x Gt Grandparents, Thomas & Mary PAWLETT or PAULETT on the 1851 or 1861 census please to enable me to trace their birth/baptism?

Thomas was described as a "Labourer of Deeping Fen" in the baptism records of his children which took place in Spalding between 1823 and 1838.

He was buried in Spalding in 1870 aged 89 and his wife was living in Spalding in 1881 so I'm not entirely sure where they would have been at the time of these censii, probably Deeping Fen. Thomas should have been about 70 and 80 in the 1851 and 1861 respectively and Mary 50 and 60.

My many thanks

London and Middlesex / Camberwell or Lambeth Baptism - WARNER
« on: Thursday 21 June 07 12:30 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help me with the baptism of my Grandmother in 1869 please?

Ada Sophia WARNER was born 10 September 1869 in Mosedale Street, Camberwell, illegitimate daughter of Sophia Warner. By 1871 they had moved a few streets away to Denmark Street, Lambeth.

I doubt very much if her father's name is written on the Baptism record but it's my only chance of discovering who he may have been.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Many thanks
