Hello all,

I am researching Anders Christen Christensen b 6 Nov 1858 in Horsens, Aalborg Denmark to:
Christen Christensen,  b Dronninglund, Hjorring abt 1836
Hedevig Andersdatter b Laeso, Hjorring  abt 1833

I have Anders' birth record and wish to understand what it says - particularly that written after his mother's name & age? If any one could help that would be great - it's  something about  "......mand Anders K---- ---------huus" I think?

Background: I believe she was born Vestero on Laeso, dau of Anders Gaarn Clausen Bach & Louise Larsdatter Smed  - sister to my 2xgt grandfather.

I can't find a marriage for Christen & Hedevig - I have her in Hals on Laeso in 1850, unmarried.
I have Christen and Hedevig in Horsens, Kaer, Aalborg in 1860 then in Ulsted, Kaer in 1870 & 1880 and then Hedevig dies 1883 aged 50y.

Hi all,

I've had some fantastic help last year from Ian re: Danish translations.
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=795441.0

He pointed me to the Probate record for my Ancestor, Claus Sorensen Bak:
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=16967859#220487,41563287

The middle record on the right.

Claus was from Vestero, Laeso (Island) , Hjorring County. His son Anders Gaarn Clausen Bak is my 3xgt-grandfather.

I'm eager to decipher Claus' probate to see if it can clear up when and where he actually died.

Notes: His wife gave birth to an illegitimate daughter in 1809, by her fiance (though the marriage ultimately never took place). The wife died in 1816, and her probate named her late spouse as: CLAUS SØRENSEN BAK as well as their 3 children and her illegitimate daughter.  The last 'live sighting' of Claus is in the 1801 Census with his wife and children  and their last child was born May 1802.

My mystery is: Did he die between 1801 and 1809? Or did he part ways with the wife, and die 1815-1816? I can't find a burial for him in Vestero either way.

Many thanks for all help.

Cheers,

Hi all,

I am trying to work out the full wording on the Birth record of Kiersten JENSDATTER, 24 Sep 1809, in Vestero Parish, Laeso Island. Hjorring County, Denmark. The basic facts are transcribed on Family Search, here:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XYFW-58Q

The original record is here, side 2 and 2nd up from bottom.
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?epid=17127956#172035,28883987

Parents: Jens CHRISTENSEN and Margrethe ANDERSDATTER.

The mother, Margrethe ANDERSDATTER (sometimes as ANDERSDATTER GAARN), my 4xGt-Gm, died June 1816 and her subsequent probate named her surviving children/heirs. The youngest, Kiersten was described as: KIRSTEN JENSDATTER 6 år. født udef. ægteskab - which I believe says she was: age 6, born outside of marriage.

Margrethe's late husband Claus whom she had married 1793, died before her and his probate was issued 1815 -  but I've never found his death/burial record. I believe he probably died while away from the island at sea -  he was a "Matros og Jordbrugere" (Sailor / Farmer).

(edited): Rather belatedly, I've wondered if  Kiersten's birth dates him having died before 1809 - the spanner in that works is that his mother died 1814, and her Probate referred to him as being "borte fra øen" (away from the Island).

I'm curious as to the full wording of Kiersten's birth  :o

Many thanks for all assistance!

Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Marriage Banns 1804 Sheepy, WORTHINGTON-ELD
« on: Friday 21 October 16 22:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

If anyone has access to the Parish records for Sheepy, I would be grateful for a lookup on the following:

Marriage entry or Marriage Banns for William WORTHINGTON and Mary ELD, 1804

My ancestors had their marriage Banns called in William's parish, Ansley (St Laurence's) Warwickshire on the 8th, 15th and 22nd January 1804.  That records stated William was of Ansley, and Mary was of Sheepy. It does not mention their marital status'.

They settled first in Sheepy, where they had their first 4 children, then sometime between 1812 and 1816, removed permanently to Ansley.

By all accounts Mary was born around 1771. This means she was around 33 yrs old when she married William.

I'm trying to establish if she was born as ELD or if this was a former married name. And hoping the Sheepy Marriages or Banns of Marriage records may state if she was a spinster or a widow.

Many thanks for your help and advice, all gratefully received  ;D

Technical Help / Rootschat Banner Link to Forum / Index - not working?
« on: Wednesday 17 December 14 12:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all  :) :)

Last night RC was down for Maintenance (so the message said). Later on,  when I tried to go into RC, via my bookmark to the Forum, there was a message, on awhite page (no RChattery logos) and this text:

Table 'rootschat_sessions' is marked as crashed and should be repaired

The path was this URL:  http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php

24 hrs later, still getting that message when trying to go into RC via my bookmark.  So I lopped off the end of the URL, and managed to get in OK  to the Home page.
http://www.rootschat.com

But.....whenever I try going to the Forum,  click the "Forum" hotlink on the RC Banner, I get that same crash error msg.

I can get into parts of the Forum, by the current topic links on the home page - but I also get  that crash message if I then try go into "General" via RC links (using this URL):
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php#c2

Is it the 'index' part that's the problem?

(I found an indirect  sidedoor into this board, "Technical Help" but can't remember how  ::)

Wondering if there is still an error being fixed, or is this something just happening to me!

Hi all,

I've transcribed the 1797 Will of Henrietta Maria HAVERS with not too much difficulty, but a couple of bit have got me cross-eyed  ::)

The first snip (below):
Is the blue & highlighted word 'secretly'? And if it is, what could that mean in the context? She was referring to the Church of the Parish her family owned Thelton, (or Thelveton) in Norfolk.

"I Henrietta Maria Havers being of sound mind
Judgement & disposing power to make this my last
Will and Testament and first I recommend my Soul
To God and my Body to be secretly buried in a
private manner in Thelton Church if I should
happen to die within one day’s journey of that
place. If not then to be privately buried in the
Parish where I shall happen to die. I give and..."

Next bit:
Pretty sure she is giving her good clothes to her nieces providing one of them does not what to a convent? Then I can't work out what it says (or means!)  in full after she gives her nephew John £20 a year?

I give the best of my wearing apparel provided my
niece  Harriot does not ----- to a convent and that
they are both unmarried to be divided between my
nieces Lelia and Harriot Havers and my common
clothes to be divided between my two servants and
it is my will & desire  that my Executor should pay to
my Nephew John Havers twenty pounds a year
during his life tho not and ------ of whatever I
may sit professor of,
after payment of my just debts

If you could help,  with words and also, meaning, I'd really appreciate it!

2) Ancestry (UK) icon now is the Rootschat icon (below)
3) Google search results now is the Ancestry.uk icon (below) [if I go to Ancestry.com, the icon is the corresct ancestry one]

Somerset Resources & Offers / Link: Somerset Inquests and Murders 1825-1830
« on: Thursday 29 September 11 13:13 BST (UK)  »
Found this amazing online pdf file of transcripts:

Somerset Inquests and Murders 1825-1830

http://www.paulhyb.homecall.co.uk/inquests/Inquests1825-30.pdf

So many names in there (there's an index at the end of the document) and facinating reading.

Sad to read of so many young children (and older persons) being burnt by their clothes catching fire  :'(

And the sorry but intriguing tale of the 95 year old man who in the space of one month in 1825:  married a 57 year old, tried to kill himself after the marriage went quickly sour and shortly after that, died when his wife pushed him down the stairs.....

Warwickshire / William RILEY born "Kershill" Coventry - and idea where that is?
« on: Wednesday 02 June 10 02:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

I have ancestor, William RILEY (RIELY) who, according to a Military record was born in what looks like
Kershill, Coventry, Warwick about 1822.  He died in 1864 (not in UK). Can't find any IGI records of birth.
Don't have a marriage for him (his wife is known to us only as Bridget from Ireland).

He's always been a mystery (not found and probably unlikley to be,  in UK Census). But I've found a straw today - trying to see how good a bit I'm clutching!

At first I wondered if "Kershill"  could be a phonetic rendering of "Coleshill" or even "Foleshill"
Now I'm wondering - could it be "Keresley"? Can/could  "Keresley" be spoken in local accent or idiom to sound like "Kershill"?

Because today I found a Baptism entry in the Vicar Lane Independant Chapel of Coventry records, here:
http://www.hunimex.net/warwick/bmd/Coventry/Coventry%20Vicars%20Ln%20Bapt%201820%20-%2037.pdf
William Henry RILEY,
born 4 Jan 1821 at Cheylesmore, St Michael, Coventry
bap 28 Oct 1821
to parents William & Elizabeth,

Vicar Lane - info
http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=16042

Can't find other births to those same parents.
Hunted about for info Cheylesmore and came across snippets from this website:
http://www.localhistories.org/keresley.html

"Keresley was part of Cheylesmore manor" and "In the 12th century Keresley was called Keresleia."

So, I'm sort of excited - could I have I found my William RILEY?

All help, all suggestions and ideas gratefully received  ;D

Cheers
