Sussex / Can anyone help?
« on: Friday 09 August 13 13:37 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking into my g g grandfather Charles Newnham who lived in cuckfield, I've noticed on the 1911 census that it states they had 10 children but 3 had died, we were only aware of 1 who had died (Frances violet). I have looked on freebmd and found 3 possibilities for the other 2, they all were born between the others and died in infancy but now I'm not sure how to find out which 2 are the right ones or indeed if any of them are! Other than getting the birth certificates is there any other way of finding out parents names?
The ones I've found are:
Florence rose Newnham b. sep 1898 d. Mar 1903
James Newnham b. mar 1900 d. Jun 1901
Female Newnham b. dec 1906 d. Dec 1906
Neither Florence or James appear with them in the 1901 census but if they were poorly and residing in hospital would they show on a different census?
I'm getting v confused!
Any help appreciated, I don't want the other 2 to be unknown and forgotten.
Thanks Kim

Sussex / Newnham's in Sussex
« on: Wednesday 07 August 13 07:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I've been away from family research for a while but just starting it back up again! I've recently had an unexpected breakthrough following going on a tour of broadwater cemetery in worthing (highly recommend) and just happened to come across a grave I'd been looking for!
I'm continuing my research of Newnham's in Sussex, and now concentrating on those that moved from cuckfield area to worthing in 1900 ish.
I also wanted to offer my services to others to look at/photograph addresses and graves in the broadwater area of worthing. Please pm or email me and I'll be happy to help!
Glad to be back,
Kim

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / 1911 census lookup please
« on: Tuesday 06 August 13 07:17 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I have recently found a gravestone for Frederick Walter Newnham in broadwater cemetery and the headstone says my beloved husband so he was obviously married, but there is no wife subsequently buried there. He died aged 40 in 1926 and lived in St. Elmo road, worthing. I'm wondering if on the census his wife's name is there? Any help greatly received! Thanks, Kim

Sussex / NEWNHAM in Sussex
« on: Thursday 21 May 09 16:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

I started my family tree research about 4 years ago, hit a brick wall, left it for a bit but have now come back to it and fill in the gaps!!!

Therefore if anyone has any information about NEWNHAM's living in Sussex, mostly Cuckfield, Horsted Keynes, Danehill and the surrounding villages that would great! Also would be interested if any of you have women in your family tree's that were Newnham's before they married so I can try and work out where they all went!!

Thanks

Kim

Sussex / Stone Quarry Inn - Chelwood Gate
« on: Friday 23 June 06 15:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi there

An ancester of mine used to work at a pub called the Stone Quarry Inn in Chelwood Gate. I know that the pub is no longer there (well I couldn't find it!!) but was wondering if anyone knew when it was knocked down or had any other information.

Thanks

Kim

Sussex / My Sussex names
« on: Friday 23 June 06 15:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

I haven't visited this site for about 6 months due to university commitments so thought I would reintroduce myself and let you all know names/places I am searching for!

My main surname interest is NEWNHAM, although I also have links to BROWNING, WARNETT, LUCAS, STEPNEY. Mostly from the Danehill/Fletching/Horsted Keynes area and Cuckfield as well as Lancing.

As another point - does anyone live near Chelwood gate that may know anything about a pub that used to be there called the Stone Quarry Inn? An ancester of mine worked there.

Thanks

Kim
