Technical Help / Problems Logging In
« on: Sunday 21 January 18 08:58 GMT (UK)  »
Have had to reset password twice and it took four attempts to log in. It kept on insisting that the password was wrong even though it was carefully typed in and was correct. Frustrating. Does anyone have an idea why this is happening? Could it be flaky internet?

Northumberland / Newcastle Newspapers
« on: Saturday 18 October 14 23:57 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
This message is especiallyfor Ticketyboo - I cannot find your post to me, but this morning, I went to FindMyPast and clicked on By Newspaper. It came up with Newcastle Courant, Newcastle Evening Chronicle, Newcastle Journal and Newcastle Guardian. I clicked on Ncle Courant, and had articles come up. However,if I type in a name, and other details, these newspaper choices disapear!  I did get some articles for Ncle Evening Chronicle for 1915 but there are problems there too. The article titles and details are gobbledegook - lower and uppercase letters and strings of numbers, I clicked on one which turned out to be a tobacconist's ad - very large print and badly out of focus. My computer is old - perhaps that is the problem. Thanks for heads up re Brit newspapers - was abt to take out a sub thinking I could access 1905 copies there.

Hello

Cork c1845 who arrived with his brother John and mother Judith on the Escort in 1859.  He married Bridget FOLEY in 1869 - he was a farmer at Apple Tree Flat.  They had James E. O. b. 1872 d, 1873; William L. b. 1874; John J. b. 1876; Thomas H. b. 1878; Clement L. b. 1881 and possibly Mary V. A. b. 1887

I cannot find deaths for Thomas or Bridget and cannot find them in NSW electoral rolls. Does anyone
have any information about this family?

« on: Sunday 12 October 14 03:51 BST (UK)  »
Recently I asked for help re burial details for Woofs who lived at Ashington. I have found a death for William Woof's daughter which gives Hirst as the place. I have contacted the relevant churches and hope to have a reply soon as to where the three are buried.
Thank you to all who replied to the original post.

Hello -
I have a special request to make of members who have easy access to copies of the Newcastle Evening Chronicle. There is a death/funeral for isabella WOOF, aged 4.  Hirst,   published in this paper on 20 March 1905. I cannot visit the library myself as I live in Australia. I cannot find this paper on Find My Past. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

Hertfordshire / Jackson Family

Hello - Am helping a friend research her Jacksons, orginally Londoners who helpfully moved to St Albans. I have traced James Joseph Jackson (b. 1859 Spitalfields - deduced from other sources) and his wife Sarah Ann Hyde (b. 1867 Limehouse) and their family - Mary, James, Joseph, Sarah, Alban  Edmund and Frances in census returns.  James Joseph was "a red hot Catholic" and very eccentric. He died in 1927. I have not found Sarah's death yet. There is a family story of the estates in Ireland, refused by James, the brother who was paid to stay away from home and yet another who was crushed to death between the side of a ship and a wharf. There is also a connection with General Mac/McDonald of Boer War fame.   I could not find James" civil birth registration or baptism but am unfamiliar with Catholic records. His marriage cert. lists his father as Thomas Jackson farm labourer, deceased. This doesn't bode well for the Irish estates. Any Jacksons from this family, would like to hear from you.

Northumberland / Burial Details
« on: Saturday 06 September 14 10:34 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
Looking for burial details for William Duncan WOOF d. 1946 and James WOOF d. 1957. Both lived at Ashington at the time of their deaths. James' wife Annie was buried in St Aidan's RC church but James is not with her - William and James were C. of E. in religion but a Google search only comes up with the C. of E. Academy in Ashington. I looked at Whitely Bay but there are no records online and I don't know if either of them has a headstone. Relatives contacted say they don't know either!
