Derbyshire / Illegitimate child of Daniel Lucas with Maria Whimbell
« on: Sunday 13 November 22 19:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I have recently stumbled upon an 1839 Derby baptism of "Henry, son of Daniel Lucas (China Painter) and Maria Whimbell (Silk Worker)"

This was quite a surprise but it could feasibly be either Daniel Lucas Senior or his son (of the same name). They were both china painters (landscape scenes).

Need help to identify who Maria Whimbell was. No luck so far.

Any help would be most welcome !

Thanks

Hi

Any ideas as to what "declining housekeeping" means?

I have found it used on the attached 1841 advertisement for an auction.

Any help most welcome.

Thanks
Doug.

Hi

I have recently encountered birth dates recorded in a strange way, a little like fractions.

Two examples are attached. What's going on here?

Any help very welcome.

Thanks
Doug

Mayo / Looking for Parkmore in County Mayo, Eire
« on: Thursday 11 November 21 16:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I am trying to find a place by the name of "Parkmore" in County Mayo, Eire, somewhere between Cong and Ballinrobe in an area known as "Creevagh" (a bit like Yorkshire, having a "North Creevagh", "South Creevagh" etc.) I have looked at fairly old (mid 1800's) Ordnance Survey mapping to no avail. Family records refer to a place in this area by that name many times. Of course spelling may be an issue, but I can see nothing that might fit the bill. Any help would be most welcome.

Thanks.

Hi

I wish to locate, if possible, an image of this record of Baptism:

Henry Clarke Baptism at St. Paul's Nottingham on 17 Feb 1840.

Hoping to find more information than the "text only collection" on Ancestry.

Any help most welcome.
Many thanks

The Common Room / School for English Ladies in Victorian Paris, France
« on: Saturday 28 November 20 22:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I am researching Miss Caroline Bingham Yelverton who was sent from Victorian England (early or mid 1850's) to Paris for schooling, possibly a "finishing school".

Are there any online resources which may assist me to locate her in the Parisian school?

Any suggestions very welcome.

Thanks

The Common Room / Enumeration Districts - 1939 "Census"
« on: Thursday 07 May 20 17:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Is there a way to determine which enumeration district a particular street is in for the 1939 Register?

I am looking for an address in Mount Ararat Road, Richmond, Surrey, UK. (No 83).

Is there a better way than trawling through them all, page by page? Maybe an index?

Any help very welcome!

Thanks

Carmarthenshire / Carmarthenshire Placename ?
« on: Wednesday 25 March 20 12:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I am trying to identify this place (see image) which I think is in the St Clears / Red Roses / Whitland / Laugharne area.

The author of the document from which this is taken was English and not Welsh so the spelling is suspect ... !

Any help very welcome.

Thanks

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / An Entire Branch Missing?
« on: Saturday 18 January 20 21:40 GMT (UK)  »

I am trying to understand what my Ancestry DNA test results are telling me. This diagram is a very simplified representation of my situation where there is an entire branch missing from the DNA results where I know from old fashioned documentary evidence that an extensive side of the family exists. Is this telling me that I have made a mistake in the identification of Alice's partner?

Any help most welcome.
