Another John Stewart!  Probably father or grandfather of the one in my last post (1707 testament dative).

I should be getting the hang of this, but I've been staring at it and very little has jumped out at me so far.  I'm only posting the 1st page (of 6) for now because I'm hoping to have a stab at the rest if someone can tell me what some of this says please.   ???

Hi.  I've transcribed most of this, but there are a couple of little bits I could do with help on please - highlighted red below.

1st page

Mr John Steuart.  11 August 1707.

The testament dative and inventary of the goods and gear pertaining and belonging to umquhill mr John Steuart elder of Ascoge advocat the time of his deceiss who deceased within the city of Edinburgh in the month of ____ M VI C and four year [1704] ffaithfully me and given up by mr William Weir and mr Adam Colt advocate curators to and as having best knowledge in name and behalf of James Stewart eldest sone to the said defunct his second marriage and only exec. dative as creditor to him in sua farr as the said umquhill mr John Steuart by his dispositione dated the XXVI day of march M VI C and IIV year[1703] assigned and disponed his whole …. In Edbr …. And …. Together with what in Glasgow in cellars he had unsold or brought to Edbr as also what of …. He had in Bute or any where else comprehending yrin [therein] all his moveables of ...

London and Middlesex / St. James Westminster - Stewart & Hutchinson

I’m looking for two men who were apparently buried “in St. James” in London.  They were both from County Antrim and were probably cousins.  They were relatively high status, so there is a chance there may be a tablet or vault.

Ancestry has the burial records which confirms their burial dates:
-   Col. Charles Stuart – 2nd Dec 1710
-   Archibald Hutcheson Esq – 18th Aug 1740

I have found transcripts of St James headstones, but the earliest date I found was 1795, so I guess it relates to the new(er) graveyard at St James Gardens?

I have a 1661 document in Scots which I'm struggling to translate.  It starts off saying it is a testament dative, so to quote GR2...

So far I have managed to get the first two lines (I think), but beyond that I am stuck.

Some Stewarts in County Antrim are said to have inherited the estates if a cousin Ninian Stewart of Kilchattan in about 1664.  I guess this is that Ninian, so I'm wondering if the will mentions any family.

Hi All,

Attached is a snippet from a Scottish will dated 1664.  I think this starts with the word “item” but after that I’m not making much out.  I’m not even completely sure it is in English.

I would appreciate a bit of help with a few lines to help me get my eye in.

Gloucestershire / Thomas Owens of Bristol (c1762)

Hi All,

The 1762 will of Robert Owens of the parish of Connor in County Antrim contains this provision if all his children die without issue:

I order the one half of all they died possessed of be equally divided amongst my bro’r William’s children and the other half to be given to my Coz’n Thomas Owens of Bristol & if he be dead at the time I order his half Along [?] to Bro’r William’s children equally divided as before mentioned…

I’m just putting this out there in case someone knows of this Thomas Owens and how he connects back to the Owens family in Co Antrim.  According to a registration of their coat of arms in 1842, the family was originally from Wales (probably c1600s).

I have found the will of a Thomas Owens of Bristol (mariner) in the Court of Canterbury Wills, but it is a bit early (1748) and there’s nothing to indicate he’s my man.  I’m not overly familiar with English records, so I’m open to suggestions.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Somewhere in Germany c1930?

Hi All,

I'm curious to know the location of this photo.  It is labelled on the back, but I can't quite make out the name.  I think the first word ends in "tag" and there are a couple of other photos from the same envelope taken in Germany in 1930.

Other Countries / Alexandria, Egypt - British marriage in 1943

Hi All,

I have three photos taken at a wedding which took place at All Saints Church in Alexandria on 18th May 1943. 

All I know is that my grandmother (Kathleen Stevenson) was the bridesmaid.  She was in the WAAF, and it is likely the bride was too.  Going by the groom’s cap, he was in the RAF.

I’d like to figure out the names of the couple.  I’ve no experience of researching in Egypt, so I’m not sure where to look.  Perhaps military records will be the place to start in this case?

Ireland / Registry of Deeds: Mysterious Missing Memorial?

Hi All,

I have found a reference to a memorial I want to see, but it seems to be missing and I was wondering,

1.   Have you come across similar missing deeds?
2.   Have you any tips for how I may find the missing memorial?

The memorial I am looking for is listed in the land index for County Donegal (1739-1810) here:

It is down near the bottom left (Gortoquigly – Rea to Hamilton & anr b307 p53 No202977).  So I went to book 307 page 53:

There's no sign of 202977, but there is 202959, so it can’t be far away.  Next page is 202978 … where is 202977!? 

I’ve tried searching the books above and below 307 too.  Below is a list of each book with the memorial numbers closest to 202977.  I’ve found 202975, 202976, 202978 and 202979 but not the one I want!
