Sussex Lookup Requests / Help Please Histed/Isted
« on: Saturday 31 March 18 15:59 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I've hit a wall with a John Isted/Histed of Hastings. I have him on the 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911 census as born Heathfield about 1834, and Married to Pheobe Isted, then Emily Histed, always living in Hastings. He seems to have added the 'H' to his name between marriages, but I may be wrong. I can't find marriage record for Phoebe and John Isted, or any record of his parents/birth. All help welcome!!  :)

Hello,
I believe that this is a photo of my gg grandparents, but can't be sure. A date range would help very much. I think that the photo was probably taken in London.
Thanks.

Kent Lookup Requests / kent workhouse records
« on: Sunday 06 March 16 15:03 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm looking for workhouse records from 1800s, but I'm not sure whether any are available apart from London.
I have had difficulty finding information on the parents of my 3rd great-grandfather William Thomas Kitto b.1811 d.1869. I believe his parents were William Kitto b.1785 and Ann Trindall b.1788 (m.1807, st pauls, deptford, Kent)
I have another record for a child born to them in 1814 Sarah Elizabeth Kitto, whose baptism record from 'Deptford, St. Paul, England', shows their 'Abode' as 'workhouse'.

I can find no further record for Sarah Elizabeth Kitto or Ann Kitto beyond the 1814 baptism, so I was hoping that workhouse records from Deptford, Kent, might be available somewhere?

All help welcome! :)

The Lighter Side / Just a general question
« on: Sunday 07 December 14 14:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I have recently found marriage records for my great grandparents. They appear to have married twice in the same year, in different places. Is this even possible? I have a BMD record for their marriage on the South coast of England in 1904, and then I have a 'select marriage' record for their marriage in Hertfordshire, later that year. My great grandfather had quite an unusual name, so I don't think that the two different records are just different couples. I am hoping that someone may have knowledge that will make up for my ignorance in this.
How are 'select marriage' records different from the BMD marriage index record?
Can people 'marry again' in a different place? I believe both to have been church weddings, so am a little confused. (I believe that their first son was born 6months after their first wedding, so they may have needed a 'quick' marriage, and then followed it up with a 'proper' wedding, but it all seems a little strange.)
Any knowledge about this would be much appreciated.  :)

Hi,
Am trying to find death info for a Mary Ann Hooton (Born Mary Ann Hawkins in Camberwell, 1864). I believe that she was still alive in 1943 as she is named in the probate record of her husband (William Thomas Hooton). All records that I have for her life, place her in Lewisham, but I can't seem to find her death record. All help would be much appreciated! :)

World War One / 5th Field Coy, Royal Engineers.
« on: Sunday 17 August 14 15:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I have found a death record for a gg uncle who was killed in action 6th Nov 1914. I am interested to know about the battle records for the Royal Engineers at the time.
I have some information about my gg uncle - Sapper William James Hooton 22518. But I would like to know more about where he may have been when he fell.
Records from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission give a map reference for where his body was found and later put in 'Hooge Crater Cemetery'. Is there any way of knowing what map the reference relates to?
Any information on the 5th field Company, Royal Engineers in 1914 would be appreciated!  :)

Any help would be great, as I can find no relevant records other than death and marriage index, neither of which provide parents names.
Hoping someone can help! :)

Am trying to find information on a WILLIAM KITTO born c1785. He married an ANN TRINDALL in 1807, in the parish of 'St Paul, Deptford, Kent'. They had 2 children,  Thomas William Kitto b.1811 and Sarah Elizabeth Kitto b.1814, both born in Deptford. I know nothing else, so any information would be great! Especially anything that suggests who his parents were!
