Technical Help / BEWARE of New Storm Virus
« on: Friday 19 January 07 20:17 GMT (UK)  »
There is a new virus attached to emails that pretend to be a report about the bad storms that just hit the UK and Europe.  The attachment is a virus and some of the anti-virus programs are not up to date yet, so be warned....  For more information: http://apnews.excite.com/article/20070119/D8MOHLEO0.html

Technical Help / Adding links to RC on my site?
« on: Tuesday 19 December 06 19:50 GMT (UK)  »
I'm sure I saw them somewhere, but I can't find details of how to add links to RC anywhere.   Obviously there is the banner at the top of the home page, but I didn't know if there was any more information of linking.

I know how to code it - just wondered if there were some standard banners etc.

Thanks

EEye Digital Security, based in Aliso Viejo, said the worm, dubbed "Big Yellow," began attacking some computer systems on Thursday - seven months after eEye first discovered the flaw.

If you are using Norton, please be careful out there....

Completed Census Requests / Hurst Family in Nuneaton, 1841 Census
« on: Thursday 02 November 06 21:34 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks to Ancestry opening their doors for a few days I managed to trace back the Hurst side of my family as far as the 1851 Census, but I can't find any of them in the 1841 Census.

The family in 1851 consists of:

William Hursh 45
Charles Hurst 21
Hannah Hurst 12
William Hurst 17
Ann Stonely 28

Note: William Hursh should I presume be Hurst - he is also shown as being born in Hunkley not Hinckley which adds to my theory...

They are living in Nuneaton, and William was born about 1806, but none of them appear to exist in 1841.

Can someone please help me unravel the mystery.  I'm not sure whether part of the 1841 Census is missing - that could be it of course.

Another oddity is that the son, Charles (my gggfather) is 21 and married to Ann,  a woman of 28.  By the 1861 Census he is married to a woman named Elizabeth, who is Mother to his kids.  I wasn't able to find any further marriage or death information, and haven't yet been able to check with the OPC sites for Warwickshire.

Thanks in advance.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Restoration Help Needed Please
« on: Wednesday 25 October 06 13:50 BST (UK)  »
This is a photo of my grandmother's brother, Charles Hurst, presumably taken shortly after he crashed his plane during WWI - he was in the Royal Flying Corps.

I don't know much else about him since the family went their own ways a long time ago, but now it's up to me to try and piece the puzzle together.

If you can do anything with the photo I would be grateful.

I appreciate I probably need to do a better scan too.
I have about 1,000 very old family photos, mostly from the 1930's to 1950's to scan... it's a long project.

Thanks in advance...

Dorset / Looking for George HARDY born 1836-1839
« on: Wednesday 18 October 06 19:31 BST (UK)  »
I hit a brick wall like we all do and wondered if anyone could help fill in some gaps for me..

I am trying to find information on George Hardy, born between 1836-1839 in Pillsdon, Dorset.  He was married to Jane Dodd (1846-) who was born in Braunston, Northamptonshire.

They had 3 children, Florence (1874-1937 born in Bradpole, Dorset), Ann (1876- born in Melplash, Dorset) and Mary (1877-1877).

By the 1881 Census Jane Dodd had remarried to John Foster, who was my great-grandfather.  Florence and Ann were living with them at the time in Northamptonshire.

I am having trouble tracing what happened to George.  I don't have access at this time to the earlier censuses, but I assume that as the children are living with Jane that he most likely died.

I would like to try and trace back into George Hardy's parentage as well as into the descendants of Florence and Ann, but as is usual with girls it is a lot harder due to the last name changing.

There is supposedly a link to Thomas Hardy somewhere, presumably from George's parents or siblings, but I have not yet been able to prove that.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
