Herefordshire / Susannah Prosser vs. Susannah Prosser
« on: Sunday 26 September 21 22:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

I've looking into one specific line and have gotten back to a "Susannah Prosser", found thanks to the Herefordshire Bishop Transcripts on FamilySearch. However, things have gotten a bit dicey as when searching for a birth record, I see there were two such women who could potentially match. They were both born in Bodenham, Herefordshire, and in 1721. They both have christening/baptism records, one on June 10th and the other on October 8th. Both fathers are called Thomas, though the mothers have different names - Joan (June) and Mary (October).

The Familysearch profile has used both dates on one profile, as the birth and baptism/christening respectively. Considering that the mothers have different names though, this is surely a mistake?

What a kerfuffle!  ???

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Census writing unclear?
« on: Friday 27 August 21 17:31 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to work out what the occupation is on a census record, but even touching up the faded image is only of limited use to me. To me, it looks like "Grocer and Lover Dealer" but I very much doubt that it is...  ;D

Can anyone decipher this for me?

I can only decipher bits n bobs, which is useless. I'm trying to work out if William was an inmate or some kind of employee, and this could be crucial. Thanks in advance.

Ireland / O'Neill
« on: Sunday 29 March 20 20:50 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I've been interested in tracing back the Irish roots on my mother's side, but it's proving to be an uphill struggle so I'm going to ask for help. At the heart of this is:

James O'Neill (though his name is John on Josephine's marriage record)

- Born abt 1845 in Ireland, son of Patrick O'Neill. (Liverpool census, Liverpool Catholic Marriage record)
- Married Mary Currid (b. 1848) on 7 May 1866 at St Augustine Church, Liverpool. Being a Catholic marriage, their names are recorded as Jacobum and Mariam (Liverpool Catholic Marriage record)

I think there may be some crossed wires because his daughter has a CoE marriage but there's a Catholic burial record. I'm so confused and lost. The starting point is Ernest G Bramwell (1891 - 1948) who married Ann Fellowes. I'm trying to trace back from his mother who was some kind of Josephine (I think... the more I search, the more my head spins) and definitely an O'Neill.

Anecdotally, my mother did a DNA test and one of three big matches was an Irish one. I decided to contact him and throw in the O'Neill surname for good measure. His response is attached.

History has taught me that there are true pros on here with far better genealogical skills than me, so I'm reaching out for a little help to put me back on track. Thanks in advance.

United States of America / David Clyde.
« on: Saturday 20 February 16 00:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I've just come across a David Clyde that I forgot to search properly before whilst building my tree. Born in West Derby/Liverpool, Lancashire in 1871, it seems he emigrated to New York in 1891 on RMS Umbria.

After a lot of searching, I can find nothing about what happened to him after he left, and was wondering if someone more skilled could help me.

Thanks.

Canada / Aschenbrenner
« on: Saturday 19 December 15 01:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I've been looking for some records or information on a Martin Aschenbrenner, specifically his life in Canada. I know that he and his wife Lucy Amelia (nee Clyde/my ancestor) moved to Buffalo, NY, but nothing about Canada... no records or anything.

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Visiting?
« on: Thursday 17 December 15 19:06 GMT (UK)  »
Would it have been likely that a person who had emigrated from England to America, to "pop back" to visit family? I know this probably sounds like a very ignorant thing to ask, but I would've thought making trans-Atlantic journeys would be quite a big undertaking in the 1920s.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / mtDNA and Y-DNA question.

Do any of the companies that do a general analysis of one's genetic heritage like AncestryDNA offer the ability to see either half's results independently?

The Common Room / Unsure. Robert Shephard, husband of Dorothy and father of Isabelle
« on: Wednesday 04 November 15 15:42 GMT (UK)  »
I was wondering if someone with more experience than me can help me with a problem. This is the case:

I'm got back to the late 1700s/early 1800s on one branch on my tree and I'm looking to find out more about a Robert Shephard, husband of Dorothy and father of Isabelle. Isabelle looks to have been born in London itself, with a record of her as being born/baptised in St Clement Danes.

I'm using Findmypast and it shows multiple possible birth records for a Robert in the London area, so this is where I'm stuck.
