The Lighter Side / FindMyPast has decided I'm a "Nibling" !!!
« on: Monday 07 August 23 20:29 BST (UK)  »
Just been checking my relationship to others in my tree and discovered that I am a nibling. great nibling, g/great nibling and so on.
On checking I find that nibling is a gender neutral term for niece/nephew.  ::) ::)

Shropshire / Lewis Llewellyn Sockett - Trefonen. Oswestry
« on: Friday 06 January 23 22:19 GMT (UK)  »
Been trawling around looking at various records and found this probate record:

Sockett Lewis Llewellyn Maestop,Trefonen, Oswestry last seen alive 8 November 1982 dead body found 16 June 1983.
I believe he was born in 1892 thus making him about 91.
I can't find any other details , newspaper reports etc.
Not a direct ancestor and currently not in my tree but this has intrigued me.

I would be grateful if someone could find something.
Thanks

Gloucestershire / Martha Jane Gambold- Last seen in Lydbrook 1918
« on: Friday 19 August 22 12:46 BST (UK)  »
Martha Jane Morgan b Bedwellty Mon. 1891 married George Edmund Gambold in Bedwellty 1911.
They are on the 1911 Census Living with her family.
George Died in 1918 at Gloucester Royal Infirmary.  Probate record says he was inn keeper of the Crown and Sceptre Lydbrook, administration granted to his widow Martha Jane.

That is the last record I can find of her. What happened to her?
I'm hoping a fresh pair of eyes can spot her.

Thanks

Herefordshire / Gweneth Sockett - mystery. Can an assumption be made? Solved.
« on: Tuesday 09 August 22 16:27 BST (UK)  »
My Great Aunt Gweneth born 1893 in Hereford - 12th and last child of Joseph and Elizabeth Ann (ne Manthorpe).
Birth March Q Vol 6a Page 492a
She is shown on 1901 aged 7 with the family - RG13 piece 2428 folio 76 page 3
Both parents have died by 1907
There is no sign of her on 1911, I have checked all living siblings and she is not with them.

BUT
In 1913 a Gwyneth Sockett marries a Francis Daw
This lady in 1939 gives her dob as ?/May/1893.
I cannot find a birth for a Gwyneth Sockett that year.

Can I safely assume that they are one and the same?

Any thoughts?

Glamorganshire / Pembroke Hotel Llangyfelach Rd. Clase, Morriston
« on: Saturday 20 February 21 21:08 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone please help.
I'm trying to locate the Pembroke Hotel on Llangyfelach Rd. I don't think it still exists and I have failed to find a map that shows it in 1871/81 when Francis Gambold was the landlord.

The Lighter Side / Better late than never!
« on: Tuesday 22 December 20 23:00 GMT (UK)  »
I spent hours looking for the birth of Ernest Sockett. I knew he was born in c1904 but there was no sign of his birth registration.
After trawling through Herefordshire births I found him registered as George E Sockett in1955 :o  with the following note:
This entry appears to be a late entry referring to the following
Births 1955 Jun: Sockett, George E. Gilbert, Hereford,9a,21
51 years between birth and registration - to true it's late. Is this a record for Rootschat researchers or can anyone beat it?   ;D ;D ;D
