One Name Studies: H to M / McLarty family Ayrshire, Scotland
« on: Wednesday 29 April 15 14:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi Everyone,
Have been researching my paternal grandfather's family history. He was Robert McLarty born in 1903 in Dalmellington. His mother was Mary McCutcheon McLarty born in 1882. I was amazed to find that Mary had 12 siblings - Elizabeth, David, Isabella,George, Barbara, Janet, James, Nicholas, Samuel, Agnes, Malcolm and Jean - all younger than her. The family lived mainly in Dalmellington although also in Straiton. Mary herself married William A Mcturk and settled in Maybole.
I wondered if anyone else has looked at the McLarty family? There must be a lot of McLarty decendants still in Ayrshire.
Thanks and regards.

Stirlingshire / Scobbies of Falkirk
« on: Thursday 02 October 14 16:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
My grandmother was Mary Scobbie born, the youngest of 7 children, at 40 Roberts Wynd, Falkirk in 1901. Her parents were Charles and Jane (nee Binnie). Her mother died when she was 4 and her father remarried the year later and the 1911 census shows the new family living in Wilsons Close. Have found out quite a lot about her, but she spent most of her life in Warwickshire, England where she died in 1970 and I believe she had lost touch with her family in Scotland.
I made a trip to Falkirk recently and got caught up in the history. It made me wonder if there are any descendants of this side of my family still living in the area. My Mother and Aunt (her daughters)are in their 80's now and know very little about their family history.
My Gran's siblings were Susan, William, Andrew, Jane Laird, Janet and Charles.
Can anyone help?
Thank you.
