Family History Beginners Board / Corr Family -Cookstown area Tyrone.

Researching the ancestry of my wife, we have a good cover of family who came from above area to North East England in late 1880's onwards....however, we have ground to a halt on historic members in villages around Cookstown. The oldest name we have been given, by a third party who has an associated family tree, is that of an Edward Corr 1788-1859 and probably wife Catherine 1794-1865. There are dozens, then and now, of similar Corr names, usual Patrick's, Johns, Mary and Catherine's et al.

Have had many goes via Ancestry, Family Search,Find my Past and the free Irish sites but having little success.........anyone with a different direction on my problem?

Family History Beginners Board / Not quite a beginner but already an addict...
« on: Sunday 09 November 14 21:45 GMT (UK)  »
Have recently been involved in tracing family in North Yorkshire and Suffolk following the news that my late Father had a brother that nobody alive knew about..in fact I found two. This led me onto tracing connections with other 'supposed' cousins, which all turned out to be factual although a generation earlier than thought.
Following this work I turned my time to Maternal lines....Way back in 1967 a professional carried out an exercise on part of my family tree and this was returned to later by one of the family who managed to get back to mid-1500's in one specific region.

I have wondered why only the men are mentioned in depth until I started trying to match spouses and found that very few of the ladies are mentioned anywhere...and the proverbial brick walls are everywhere!........so even National Archives are not much use,so far...

Hope to be sharing with you all soon...
