Suffolk / MATHEWS William & Sarah in Woodbridge mid 1800's
« on: Tuesday 08 October 19 10:09 BST (UK)  »
My great, great grandparents, William and Sarah MATHEWS managed a pub in New St Woodbridge in the mid 1800's. I would appreciate any help I can get to trace several of their children.
Jane b 1823, Robert b 1830, Mary Ann b 1835 and Henry Edward b 1842.
I have found through ancestry information about William Thomas b 1826 and Caroline b 1837.
I am related through William Thomas who somehow made his way to Australia.
kind regards,
Cheryl

London and Middlesex / Bethnal Green
« on: Sunday 29 May 16 01:56 BST (UK)  »
I will be visiting UK in July and have been unable, thus far, to find an historical society link to the Bethnal Green area.  In the mid 1800's my great grandmother, Eliza GATES,  was born in New Nichol St Bethnal Green and while I can find a map of the area around that time little else is presenting itself.
I would appreciate any links that I could tap into so I can expand on my visit to the area.

Kind regards,
Cheryl

Suffolk / MATHEWS Thomas William 1826
« on: Sunday 04 October 15 04:22 BST (UK)  »
I have been trying to verify the parents of my great grandfather, Thomas William MATHEWS, who was born about 1826. I have a copy of his marriage in 1870 to Eliza GATES (in Cranbourne, Vic, Australia) which gives his father's name as William MATHEWS and his mother Sarah (maiden name unknown).
He appears on his son's marriage certificate as William Thomas MATHEWS. It seems that Thomas was born in Suffolk about 1826 and Eliza Gates was born in 1844 in Bethnal Green.
I would appreciate any help with this.
Kind regards,

Cornwall / Edmund JANE
« on: Friday 23 January 15 04:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I am searching for information - particularly a death record -for my 2x great grandfather, Edmund JANE who was born in Liskeard or St Austell in approx 1814-1816 to parents, Edmund JANE and Ann PITT.

Edmund married (1) to Elizabeth VIAN in 1836 in Cornwall. They had 4 sons, William (1837), Thomas (1839), Edwin (1842) and Simeon (1844). After Elizabeth's death in 1845, Edmund married (2) Jane BONE in 1849. They had a further 3 or 4 children.

Edmund is listed in all census up to and including 1891. In the 1891 census, he is a widower living at Wrestling Green, St Austell. I can find no further mention of him after this time.

It has been suggested that he may have travelled to America (where some of his sons had migrated) and died there. As he was 77 in 1891, I have doubts over this however I haven't been able to locate a death record for him in England.

Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank-you.
