The Common Room / Register of birth/death of infant
« on: Sunday 23 August 15 16:30 BST (UK)  »
I know that my parents had a son in 1933/34 born in a Nursing Home in Liverpool.
The boy lived for about twelve hours.
My parents are long dead & my elder sister (b.1938) cannot help.
Try as I may I have not found any record of either his birth or death.
Is it possible that no registration of the birth/death took place?
Any ideas would be appreciated!

Cardiganshire Lookup Requests / WILLIAMS- ABERYSTWYTH
« on: Saturday 21 February 15 15:44 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for any information regarding my G.Grandfather,William WILLIAMS, & his parents John & Martha.
William was born in Aberystwyth in about 1828 & moved to Liverpool with his widowed mother where he trained as a pattern maker.
Martha was born about 1786 in Aberportwest.
The only information I have on John is that he was a joiner by trade (from Williams Marraige certificate) & that he was dead before I found William & Martha on the 1851 Census in Liverpool.
I know looking for WILLIAMS in Wales is a bit like looking for a needle in a hay- stack, but nothing ventured!

Westmorland Lookup Requests / KENDAL R O? - House search-DUFTON
« on: Saturday 21 February 15 10:49 GMT (UK)  »
I would like to find the 'House,Shop & Croft' built in 1882-83 in DUFTON, by my G.Grandfather James DALTON. Is it possible that there are records ie rates, maps that could give this information?
The property was sold by his widow Jane DALTON in 1892 before she &  her younger children emigrated to Canada.
Property sale 15 March 1892 - George THOMAS, solicitor, Appleby acting for vendor.
H'hold & business equipment/stock sale 22 June 1892 by RICHARDSON & CO,Accountants, Appleby.
I don't expect anyone to have time to 'look up' for me but an enquiry at the Record Office as to whether they have records that may hold the information would be helpful.

Westmorland / DUFTON DIARY-1869-1899
« on: Tuesday 17 February 15 13:12 GMT (UK)  »
My G.Grandfathers eldest brother William FLEMING wrote a 'DIARY'  from 1869- 1899. William was a Mine Agent with the London Lead Company, covering Dufton & Alston moor. He was also a Methodist lay preacher. He lived at Chapel House in DUFTON until his death in 1899.

He wrote in a leather bound notebook his daily happenings, both work & personal. He also recorded the events for others in the village, near surroundings & NENTHEAD (where he had relatives).

I am willing to trawl the diary for anyone who may have an interest in this localality.

Westmorland / Dufton - James DALTON 1841-1883
« on: Tuesday 17 February 15 11:54 GMT (UK)  »
James built a HOUSE, SHOP & 'CROFT' in DUFTON village (according to the William FLEMING DIARY)  in the winter of 1882-83. He opened for business in spring 1883.

His widow, Jane DALTON, carried on the business until 1892. In the spring of that year she sold her HOUSE, SHOP, CROFT & GARDEN (again according to William FLEMING). The sale was also advertised in the PENRITH OBSERVER. RICHARDSON & CO. of APPLEBY acted as agents for the sale. GEORGE THOMAS, solicitor, of APPLEBY acted for Jane.

I have tried to work out which property in DUFTON this may be. Can anyone out there point me in the right direction to further my research?

Cornwall / TRATHAN/TRATHEN Catherine b abt 1769. RUDRUTH?
« on: Thursday 29 January 15 16:44 GMT (UK)  »
Catherine TRATHEN:- Married William FLEMING in CONISTON (now Cumbria) in December 1793. She died in ALSTON in Oct 1801. Her obituary states that she was a native of REDRUTH.
William FLEMING worked as a Washing Master - dressing the lead ore from the NENTHEAD mine.
I have found a Richard TRATHEN in the Nenthead area but can't get a definate connection- He too worked in the lead mining industry.
Can anyone give me any information on her birth in REDRUTH (or that area)?
