London and Middlesex / Henry Johnson Needham
« on: Wednesday 25 April 12 21:30 BST (UK)  »
I am hoping someone can help with some ideas around the following although it is a big ask.

I have a Henry Johnson Needham who was baptised in 7 Jan 1874 and his birth date shows as 4 Jun 1866.  Several other siblings were baptised at the same time.   These baptisms were done within a month of the family leaving England for New Zealand.   I know that some of the other siblings had been baptised previously (around their births) so not sure why they were redone however I can't find a previous baptism for Henry.   The Parish is showing as Chelsea St, Jude and the Borough as Kensington and Chelsea - address is 2 George Place although they were probably renting or staying with someone at the time.

The thing is that the baptismal record shows his parents as Robert Richard and Henrietta Needham and I am pretty sure that she wasn't his mother.

Robert Richard married Henrietta Harman in 1868 and according to the records Henry was born in 1866 which wouldn't necessarily mean anything except that Robert R is showing as a widower on the marriage certificate to Henrietta.

It is possible that they had Henry baptised with them as parents to make it easier when they were emigrating - I really don't know for sure.   I have requested a couple of birth certs from the UK GRO covering  1865 - 1870 but they have not been able to find anything for him during that time.

I have checked his death record here in NZ and it doesn't show parents or a wife however it does say 79yrs old which does match with 1866 although it may not be correct. I haven't found a marriage record for him so he may not have married.

His father was married before but I cannot find a marriage under Robert Richard and if he just used Robert Needham on the marriage cert then there are many of them.  I have searched for a marriage from about 1851 to 1868 in Middlesex and then have checked all the women in those marriages to see if any died in the 1866-68 timeframe but so luck.  For Robert R I have 1836 as his brith date (from family) but can't find him in the Parish records or BDM after Sep 1837.  There are lots of Roberts but no Robert Richards - well not when I last looked anyway.

He shows in his death record and the NZ electoral rolls as Robert Richard Needham so presume that should be on his birth record although it doesn't always follow that it would.

So this long story above brings me to what I need - bascially I am trying to find the first wife of Robert Richard who is most probably also the mother of Henry Johnson.  If anyone can help in the meantime I would be grateful.

Hopefully it all makes sense and if anyones wants more information I am happy to if I have it.

Thanks

Gloucestershire / Elizabeth Tanner Hancock
« on: Saturday 19 March 11 18:53 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All

I was wondering if someone can help find some information regarding the above.

The birth certificate of one of her daughters shows her as Elizabeth Tanner Pitcher formerly Hancock.   Her marriage certificate shows her father as George.

Their first daughter is Fanny Lois (chr1851) and their second daughter above is called Rosa Anne (chr 1853).

I have found the following:
There is a George Hancock with wife Lois both 62 and 63 respectively in the 1851 census with a daughter Elizabeth aged 20.  Also staying close by is a John Pitcher serving as a carpenters apprentice aged 17.   Elizabeth married Timothy Pitcher in Aug 1851
Marr for a George & Lois
George Hancock m  Lois Lewis 4 Jan 1808 St. James, Bristol, Gloucester

Summary
1. Elizabeth shows as Elizabeth Tanner Hancock in her marriage to Timothy.
2. There is a George b about 1780 marr to a Rosa Hannah Tanner (can't find this marriage - the info was from someone else's tree but no source listed.  It doesn't seem a name someone would pluck out of thin air but I just can't find her)
3.  Timothy & Elizabeth names their first child Fanny Lois (which is an indication that her mother could be Lois)
4.  They named their second child Rosa Anne which ties into the Rosa Hannah Tanner.

I have a Chr date for Elizabeth of 14 Feb 1841 but I got that from someone else who did not show a source and haven't been able to find it.

Can someone help me to tie up the loose ends here please.   I have searched but am obviously missing something.

thanks

Gloucestershire / Arlingham - Golding / Goulding
« on: Monday 13 December 10 19:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All

I am asking a big favour here so if no one can help I understand.

I have a lot of relatives with the above name(s) who lived in Arlingham from the mid 1600s through to the 1800s.  Some of them were buried in the St Marys churchyard / cemetery.  I don't know yet what other cemeteries existed and who of them were buried there.   I wondered if there is anyone who lives close to St Marys can possibly get photos or a note of inscriptions from any gravestones still standing or any other information that may be available from the church there.   All these people are related but I haven't been able to tie a lot of them in and am hoping the insciptions or other info there might help.

I am willing to pay for any expenses incurred on my behalf.

thanks

Somerset / SUMMERHAYES family
« on: Sunday 12 September 10 03:22 BST (UK)  »
I have a family and the information came from a document written by one of the children who was older when she wrote it.   I can't confirm any of the information so if anyone can help that would be great.  Apart from not being able to find anything one of the children's birthdate indicates the father and mother would both be 15 when they had her.   While this is not wholly impossible it is more likely to be incorrect than otherwise.

I spell Summerhayes this way but the record could show a completely different spelling however I have always searched on whatever Soundex etc is available which seems to bring up all the variations of Summerhayes

Father: Samuel Summerhayes b/chr 1 Jan 1815, Ilminster, SOM
Mother: Louisa Hickman b/chr 1816, England
Children
Cecilia Elizabeth
Henrietta Caroline Louisa bn/bap/chr 1830,  Taunton, England?
Samuel Lewis
Margaret Annie
Henrietta shows as being married to Edward Taunton Jebolt in 1862.   I haven't gone any further with this person at this stage but will do so in the future once I have confirmed the parent/child relationships.

I have looked for Samuel & Louisa's marriage in multiple places, multiple ways but no luck,  This mge should have been in Somerset but I have also looked with just England selected - but no.

Samuels parents are Robert and Elizabeth.

Cecilia married twice - once to Alfred Anderson who was a professor (of chemistry & geology in Birmingham) who died in England.   She then came out to AU and married Richard Nicholls whi I think may be from NZ.

So what I am looking for in all of this is:
Samuel & Louisa's birth and marriage info
The children's birth info
Cecilia's first marriage info.

Thanks in advance

Gloucestershire / Hancock, Tanner & Lewis
« on: Saturday 28 August 10 00:32 BST (UK)  »
I need some fresh eyes on the family below.
My 2nd GGrandmother is Elizabeth Tanner Hancock (full name showing on birth cert of daughter Rosa) and she marr Timothy Pitcher.     I have her birth year as 1830 although unable to find proof other than her marriage cert and various census so it's about right.

It's when I get to her parents that I need the fresh eyes.
-Her father shows as George Hancock on the marriage cert
-I can find an Elizabeth for the right age in the 1841 & 1851 census with a George and Lois as her parents.
- the 1851 census shows George as 62 and Lois as 63 which would make them born around 1788 & 1789.
- I found a marriage for George Hancock and Lois Lewis for 1808
- I have found a birth record for a Lois Lewis b in 1788
Now this all sort of fits however my Elizabeth was botn in 1830 and although I can't find any other children for them there are various trees showing several children with the first birth being 1823.    So what happened between their marriage in 1808 and the birth of their first? child.  It would be very strange if there were no other children born during her twenties as it looks like she only started having children when she was 35 - not impossible - just unusual.

I currently have Elizabeth's mother as Rosa Hannah Tanner.  Now I am not sure where I got that from as it was back in the days when I first started doing genealogy and wasn't familiar with sources.  However her middle name is Tanner so it has to come in somewhere.    I have searched for a marr for a George and Rosa (and variations) and also for a George and Hannah but can find nothing.   A couple of the trees I looked at had George's (marr to Lois) parents as George and Hannah so as I mentioned above I did do a search for them.

I am coming to the conclusion that George and Lois are definitely Elizabeth's parents but before I change anything I would like something to explain the Tanner
name and also am concerned about the big gap between the marriage and the children.

Any clarification or thoughts would be appreciated
Thanks

Hi All

Following that there are some more for his son Thomas which started after Ferdinando's death in 1797.

And for another son John -  Elizabeth Torrington, 9 apprenticed to John Blampin, yeoman 2404A/PO 180/16 1832.

I have the death for Ferdinando with no birth and I have the birth and death dates for his children.   Ferdinando married Elizabeth Perriman in 1757.

I am looking for the following information if anyone can help.   I am not sure whether the inns were owned or managed or what by this family
1 - more information on this family
2 - any history on Half Moon Inn in Cullompton, Devon.  I have found modern stuff on this but no history.
3 - any history for Wood Mill or any of the other things/places mentioned in the apprenticeships above

Just a note regarding my relationship with this family.  Ferdinando is my 5th great grandfather.

Any help at all would be appreciated.  If more information is required please let me know.

Thanks lyraea
