Family History Beginners Board / Obtaining a cert online
« on: Friday 05 May 06 00:45 BST (UK)  »
Hello

Could someone please explain how I can get the information on the below certificate, online.

I have visited GRO and it seems very congested with people ordering.

Is there another way I can do this.

Does anyone do lookups or if someone is visiting a centre could they kindly look up the details for me please.
I live in New Zealand and most of my ancestors are from Liverpool, Lancashire. It is going to be a costly business if I have to order for each person.
I can do a swap with Scotlandspeople pay site if anyone is searching for ancestors.

Thankyou
Kristina Cameron

Family History Beginners Board / Birth Certs in Lancashire
« on: Saturday 28 January 06 22:44 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all

I am trying to find information about my Gmother Jane Smith.
Her birth details are September 17 1911 in Liverpool, Lancashire.
Her Mother was Jane Millar m.s Tully.
Her mother Jane Millar married John Paterson Smith in September quarter 1912 Liverpool, Lancashire. after my Grandmother was born.
There is a certificate in the family which is kept under lock and key so to speak as when she died it was not known she was illegitimate.
Apparently the certificates where a different colour if you where illegitmate. (how awful) not sure if this was true.
Where could I find her birth certificates to find if there is a fathers name on it. I have tried to find a re-registration of my grandmother Jane Smith, hoping John Paterson Smith was the father but as she was born out of wedlock then I am hoping they registered her after the marriage.

Could anyone please help me with this as it could put this story to rest. I am positive this birth registration can be found after the marriage as I haven't found a registration for Jane Smith mother Jane Millar nee Tully.
My Grandmother did use the name Smith thereafter as John Paterson Smith could have adopted her or just used the name Smith.

Thanks in advance
Kristina
