Staffordshire / Help with William Fletcher Dudley around 1750
« on: Wednesday 07 October 20 21:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi, can anyone help please? Looking for information on William Fletcher born in Dudley around 1750.
His son, John, married Ann Hornsby at All Saints Sedgley .
What we are looking for is information on Williams' wife-believed to be Hannah but Hannah what?
Also the names of Williams' parents. Can't find much info on locations but seems likely to be in the Dudley area and mining seems to be a likely occupation.

Herefordshire / electoral rolls?Advice needed please.
« on: Wednesday 13 March 19 22:14 GMT (UK)  »
As a last throw of the dice in attempting to trace 3 missing Mills family members post WW1, I am wondering if the electoral rolls for Collington Bromyard for 1919 or similar years might be able to help? or indeed the absent voters register for this period?
Would anyone be able to advise if these are held at Hereford archive or available online for a fee and,if so, what specifics I would need to know to make such a search as effective as possible ? (I know the 1939 registers can't help as the majority of family members had left the area by then.)

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / James Hart at Chaceley?
« on: Wednesday 14 November 18 18:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi. I have just discovered that my 5xggrandfather James Hart who married a Sarah Diar in Eldersfield in 1791 is listed as being " Of Chaceley"
Since I can find no more traces of the Harts in Eldersfield prior to 1791,I'm wondering if his baptism records (and /or other earlier records relating to the Hart family) may be recorded in parish records of St Johns church Chaceley.
I believe some of the church records from the 18th century may still exist but as boundaries shift and diocese aren't always the same as counties, could someone advise me where these records might be held? Glos archive? Worcs archive? a.n other?
Advice from anyone who knows the geography of this area (I don't!) about where to go next or who has access to these records would be much appreciated.

Cheshire Lookup Requests / What became of George and Ethel Mills?
« on: Wednesday 17 February 16 00:08 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find out what became of George Henry Mills-confectioner and his wife Ethel Mary(maiden name  Hill).
Last found living in London Road Davenham Cheshire in 1925/6.
They originally came from the Hereford/Worcestershire border area and married in Thornbury Herefordshire in 1921.I can find no trace of children from this marriage or death/burial records or wills for either of them but would not know which church/parish records to investigate as I am unfamiliar with this part of the country.

Family History Beginners Board / Linking Caroline Dallow to an Edward James
« on: Thursday 22 October 15 18:59 BST (UK)  »
I have found newspaper reports (Hereford Times etc) that Caroline Dallow (sometimes Dalloway and mistakenly written as Holloway on Ancestry)
took an Edward James before Bromyard Petty sessions on 20th Dec 1862 charging him with neglecting to contribute to the support of their illegitimate child (my GGG grandfather George) Her witness was the local constable and it appears she was awarded 1 shilling 6d weekly.
Unfortunately, the petty sessions records which would have given me a possible age and address for this  Edward  James have not survived (according to Hereford archives) and there are no obvious candidates I can locate.

Caroline fell pregnant in 1861 and her son George Dallow was born in Thornbury Hereford 2nd Oct 1861- this is where Caroline's own mother Mary (re-married to a Thomas Vobe) was living in  1861  so may explain why the baby was born there.
What I can't find is where Caroline was in 1861-I was hoping that I might find an Edward James living in the same area .(The only one in Thornbury is a young child )but I can't locate her on the census.

In 1851 she was living in Sutton hamlet, Sutton, Tenbury as a servant aged 13. The rest of her family were living in Hampton Charles Herefordshire at this time. By 1865 she was married to James Mills in Bromyard. The family also briefly lived near Leominster and Leysters prior to 1861.

Family History Beginners Board / Help with 3 "missing" Mills brothers
« on: Wednesday 14 October 15 21:41 BST (UK)  »
Help! I've been researching what became of the 10 children of George and Annie Mills, living at The Forge Collington Herefordshire on 1901 and 1911 census records. I have information on most of them
but lose three of the older brothers who appear to have vanished from history. All would have been old enough to fight in WW1 but I can't find service, death or pensions records or anything on any war memorial I can track but also no subsequent marriage, children or death records either. I can't believe all 3 vanished without a trace so there has to be something I'm missing.

I'm looking for ;
James Edward Mills born Tenbury district of Worcestershire in 1894. He was James on 1901 census but Edward on the 1911 census living in Collington, a keepers assistant age 17 years.

Thomas Mills born 1893, again at Tenbury and living at Collington in 1911 age 19, a farm assistant. He had a twin-John,who was buried at St Marys Collington in 1946.

George Henry Mills born Tenbury district 1891. Emigrated to Canada aboard The Virginian in April 1914 but returned, after war was declared, aboard The Missanabie into Liverpool on 28th November 1914. After this, no trace!

Whilst I'm aware that any service records might well have been destroyed, I'm puzzled that I can find absolutely nothing at all about all three and would welcome any suggestions. ???

Canada Lookup Request / Help finding what became of George Henry Mills
« on: Tuesday 22 September 15 21:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi, Please can anyone help me find out what became of George Henry Mills born 1891 Worcestershire England to George and Annie Mills (blacksmith and shopkeeper) of Collington Herefordshire?

I think he may have been the George Henry Mills  who arrived in St Johns Canada aboard The Virginian on 23rd April 1914 from Liverpool.
He gave his destination as Ottawa and his occupation as farmer and baker. He would have been about 23 years old and, as far as I know, unmarried.
After this I can find no trace of him.
I would love to know if he married and made a life for himself in Canada or if he possibly got caught up in WW1  but I can find no trace. Any help appreciated.
