World War One / Identification of uniform please
« on: Wednesday 29 January 20 15:44 GMT (UK)  »
This is a photo of my grandfather - sitting on the barrel in the front row. He was born in 1900 and as far as we knew did not serve in either war. However this is definitely him so I am assuming that it was taken late in WW1 when he would have been 18. I am trying to find any records for him that might help solve the mystery. Sidney Thomas seems to have been a popular combination and without a regiment I have not been able to find him. The lovely people on the photo restoration board have helped me by much improving the quality of what is a very poor photo. They also suggested that the Jazz Band reference might indicate a 1919/20 date and that the insignia might possibly be for the Royal Army Service Corps. Any help to point me in the right direction would be very much appreciated.

The photo is too blurred to make out the insignia and I wondered whether it was possible to improve the quality and confirm that this might be WW1.
Thanks for any help

Northamptonshire / Where would my family be buried?
« on: Thursday 25 February 16 18:00 GMT (UK)  »
My Dainty ancestors lived in Orton for several generations from about 1720 to 1820. Their baptisms and burials are recorded in the Rothwell parish registers, with the note that they "of Orton". Does anyone know whether they would actually have been buried in Rothwell or in Orton? I would love to find their graves but am not sure where to look. As I am not local it is not just a case of popping in and having a look.
Thank you for any help you can give.
