« on: Monday 23 November 09 21:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,  Could someone tell me how to go about obtaining a Swiss birth certificate?
I have the name of the person and their date of birth, but no place other than Switzerland.
Many thanks in advance.  Pam

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Swiss au-pair 1946ish
« on: Tuesday 06 October 09 13:17 BST (UK)  »
Hi can anyone tell me if a Swiss girl coming to work in London shortly after WW2 would have to register anywhere as an alien?
I know she only stayed a couple of years, but would there be any "paper trail" to show where she came from etc?
Thanks in advance Pam

Northumberland / 1st 7th Northumberland Fusiliers
« on: Saturday 10 January 09 00:02 GMT (UK)  »
A friend and I are writing a book about the 1/7th NF. The book will record the events in France and Belgium during WW1 pertaining to the 1/7th with the emphasis being on the men themselves told with the aid of newspaper cuttings, tape recordings, diaries and letters.
We hope our book will enable relations to trace the movements of their ancestors during the course of the war, from enlistment to the time they left the battalion.
If anyone has any letters or photograph's that they would be willing to allow us to use in the book, please could you send me a p.m.
Thank you
Pam

World War One / Which Regiment?
« on: Sunday 20 July 08 22:17 BST (UK)  »
My Gt Grandfather was in Abbassia, Egypt 1919, I was told he was a regular both before, during and after WW1, (I cannot be 100% about this information), but I don't know which regiment he was in.
He lived between Morpeth and Alnwick, Northumberland and I would assume he would have joined the Northumberland Fusiliers, but cannot find them being in Egypt at the time of the photo.
I have been to Kew and cannot find him on the medal roll. I did ask about his service papers but was told I would have to apply to Glasgow, is this correct?
I have attached the photo I have of him.

A friend and I are researching the 1/7th Northumberland Fusiliers. Does anyone have any photo's, letters, diaries, newspaper cuttings, anything which will give a more personal view rather than the official histories.
many thanks

World War One / Which Battalion?
« on: Wednesday 09 July 08 13:56 BST (UK)  »
I think I already know the answer to this, but does anyone have ideas how I can find out which battalion some men belonged to.
I have the men's service numbers, names and I know they were all in the Northumberland Fusiliers but I would like to know the battalion. Any suggestions welcomed.

World War One / WW1 service records at Kew
« on: Wednesday 26 September 07 17:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Can anyone tell me any ideas for getting my Grandads WW1 service records.
He was in the 2/1st Derbyshire Yeomanry, they never served abroad, so he did not qualify for any medals. (I have looked on the medal roll and not there)  He did not received a pension. I have contacted the regimental museum and nothing is recorded about him. Is there anything I can do to find his records?

England / GRO reference
« on: Friday 21 September 07 19:40 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone offer an explanation why a GRO reference would be altered.
The district  has not been changed but the number 707 has been crossed out and replaced with 3058/S  Is is possible that this could relate to an adoption?
Any help would be appreciated.
Pam
