Berkshire / Walker sisters
« on: Wednesday 28 February 18 10:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

I am currently researching the family of my great grandfather Henry John Walker. He died in WW1 but he came from quite a large family and I am having trouble finding information about some of his younger sisters (my great aunts). Their parents were Henry and Harriet Walker (nee Iles) and as far as I can tell, all their births were registered in Faringdon.

Florence Elizabeth Walker born 1895. She married Albert E.Baxter in 1924, but I can't seem to find records of any children resulting from that marriage... She may have died in 1954.

Violet May Walker born 1904. I believe she had a daughter, Cicely May Walker in 1920- no father listed- who may have died only aged 3 years in 1923.

Winifred Ann Walker born 1906- I did find a possible marriage to Cyril Wiles but am not 100% certain about that..

Eveline Mary Walker born 1911- a bit of as mystery so far..

If anyone has come across any of my great aunts in their own research I'd love to hear from you!

Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / Walkers of Shrivenham/Watchfield/Faringdon

Hello,

I have been tracing the family of my great grandfather Henry John Walker. He died in WW1 but he was one of 12- possibly 13 siblings born to Henry Walker and Harriet Walker nee Iles.

Harriet was born around 1868 to Elijah and Ann Iles (nee Gibbs), but beyond that I know very little about her. She is on all the birth/baptism records of all her children, mostly as Walker, and then Iles for the youngest daughter (Eveline Mary Walker born 1911), and comes up on the 1901/1911 Census for the Watchfield area. Her husband Henry Walker died in the early 1920s but I cannot find Harriet after the 1911 Census.

Would anyone have come across Harriet Walker (nee Iles) or any Walkers/Iles from the Watchfield/Shrivenham/Faringdon areas in their research?

Many thanks,
Jen

World War One / Walker Brothers WW1

Hi everyone,

My great grandfather was Henry John Walker. For reference he was a sargeant in the 6th Battalion of the Wiltshire reg, no 8037. He died in WW1 and we have found him on the Thiepval memorial in France.

However, Henry was one of 12- possibly 13 children born to Henry and Harriet Walker of Watchfield. One of those children was Elijah Walker, also served in the armed forces in WW1. So far I have managed to find out Elijah served in the Royal Field Artillary of the British army- he has surviving papers in the W0363 and I know that he survived WW1 as he was a witness to his sister's marriage in 1924 but after that I can't seem to find any trace of him.

Would anyone have come across Elijah Walker in their own research and be willing to share information? I would love to know what happened to him.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
regards,
Jen
