Hi I was wondering if anyone can help me with finding my great great grandfather.  His name was Jules Victor Dotrice.  He does sometimes go by Jules and others Victor.  He was born in 1842 in Belgium.  He left but do not know when but was in Guernsey in the Channel Islands by the 1881 census with his wife Marie (whom he married in Belgium in 1870) and son Oscar (born in Belgium 1874).  Now the family stayed in Guernsey for the rest of there lives except for Victor.  The family story is he died on scaffolding in New York he had gone ahead of them to make money.  They had more children born in Guernsey up until October 1881.  He is showing on the 1881 census but by the 1891 Marie is the head but still showing as married.  By the 1911 census she shows herself as widow.  I have looked in ancestry but could not find anything on him. As I say my family believe he as in New York.  Any information any one can find or has on him would be great.  If you think the name is familiar he would have been Roy Dotrice (actor) grandfather.
