United States of America / Queens County NY Surrogates COurt
« on: Tuesday 19 March 13 00:28 GMT (UK)  »
I found the following index card in the Queens County NY Probate index. I found the 1884 Administration papers on the LDS site. https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/1916211

I am looking for the will itself and am assuming that the citation means Liber Q page 176. How would i find this? I am sure there must be an easier way that i have been trolling the web pages looking for this.

Thank you for any advice Kristin

US Lookup Requests / Mariners Church , NYC lookup
« on: Monday 24 September 12 18:17 BST (UK)  »
Its a long shot but wondering if anyone in the NYC area would be available to look at the Marriage and Baptismal registers of the Rev. Henry Chase, Minster of Mariners Church, NYC. births 1822-1853, marriages 1821-1853

It is located in the archives at the NY Public Library Schwarzman Building. Here is the link with the information on the source-
http://www.nypl.org/archives/47946

I believe it is also held at the NY Historical Society too.  I have a bunch of mariners in my tree who i know some of had children baptized there. I can message anyone the details of the people  if they can go.. but the family names are Ferris and Perry.

Thank you ! I can reimburse anyone for any cost to park or travel to the library.

England / catholic baptism records
« on: Monday 10 September 12 17:51 BST (UK)  »
I am going back to square one with my ancestor George William Burke. I only know for sure the following information based on his marriage and death record in the US, draft record, obituary and US census records. And also following his sisters records.

George William Burke was born January 5, 1875-78 in England to William Burke and Harriet Stone. He immigrated to the US in 1886. His sister Dorothy Burke was born July 6, 1880 in England and married Roland Seaman in NY.

I do know George was a Catholic his entire life.  I have not been able to find a census in 1881, birth record on GRO that matches him . I have ordered some with no good results. I cannot find his parents marriage.

I was wondering if there is a location for Catholic records in England that i can access or request a search.

Would there be a place to find a record of people leaving England?  I cant find when my ancestor arrived in NY, USA but I was wondering if it would be possible to see when he left Manchester(and what family came with him)?  Icant find his arrival so thinking to look for his departure to narrow down my hunt.  :)

Thank you! Kristin

US Resources & Offers / Ellis Island Quarantine Database 1909-1911
« on: Saturday 30 June 12 01:14 BST (UK)  »
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~quarantine/quar_a.htm

Database of individuals died in Quarantine at the Hospitals for Contagious Diseases which were located on Hoffman and Swinburne Islands in Richmond County, New York. Most of them were immigrants en route to Ellis Island who were removed from ships in the outer harbor of the port of New York by the New York State Medical Inspectors and transferred to these two hospitals. Their families would have continued on to Ellis Island for inspection and probably were detained while awaiting the disposition of the sick child or family member.

This list was compiled by reviewing all Death Certificates from November 1909 through June 1911 that were registered in Richmond County (Staten Island), NY and identifying those deaths which occurred on either Hoffman or Swinburne Islands.

I am looking for the index # for some probate records in Queens NY. I have the date of  death and i found out that there is an index at the Surrogate Courts Office in Queens. If i have the index number then i could find the probate records on the LDS site where they are scanned but can only be browsed and not searched.

Conrad Fleck died May 12, 1908

Annie Grabber died January 15, 1905

United States of America / Queens County Probate
« on: Thursday 12 January 12 14:21 GMT (UK)  »
Family Search has put New York, Queens County Probate Records, 1899-1921 online. I have been browsing trying to find some records since they are not indexed. I know the exact date of death and have the death record.  Yet as i browse, there seems to be not linear organization by date.

Question- Is there an index available to the Queens County , NY Probate Records? Or does anyone have a suggestion on how the find a specific record?

Thank you. I have spent about 4 hours plus so far just scanning the pages and have had no luck and now a stiff neck  :).
