Dorset / iron moulder - Bridport
« on: Saturday 24 February 07 01:56 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,
I know what an iron moulder does in the general sense. Foundary, pouring moulten metal etc

But could someone tell me what industry they might be involved in Bridport.
Bridport being a port, I suspect shipping of some sort. But what exactly.
They also went to Greenwich/Deptford and worked around the docks as iron moulders, boilermakers and so on....one son becoming a marine boilermaker, then engineer.
This is a brickwall and I am trying to come at it from a different angle.
Any knowledge gratefully passed on to someone else and received with gratitude.
Cheers in advance
Sunny

Occupation Interests / Waterman & Lighterman bindings
« on: Thursday 22 February 07 20:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone,
I have some bindings, but I have a query for someone knowledgeable.
The Cd my cousin bought has bindings for over aged boys 1865-1926.

Was there anything earlier for over aged.
Why I ask is.
My James Thomas Worwood chr 1836 - father James Thomas Worwood.
On Baptismal entry father is a Carpenter, On marriage of JT in 1857 he was a waterman.
I figure he must have been over aged, as surely he would have been at least 18 at time of his sons birth.......
Any help greatly appreciated.
Attacking a brickwall with a toothbrush and a prayer.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Jane (aka Loverleylegs)
Thank you for the wonderful lookup offer. I'd like to take advantage of it in relation to  a rather irritating and elusive brickwall, that perhaps you can help me with.
I am looking for a burial for a James Thomas Worwood - there are three generations of James Thomas Worwoods (also spelt Warwood) in London.   The earliest one I do not have a birth for. His son James Thomas was born 1836 and buried 1897.
therefore the one I am most interested in would be born before 1816 based on being aged 20 at birth of his son James Thomas Worwood. I hope that makes sense.
Many thanks in advance
Cheers Jane

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1841 census Sackville street
« on: Saturday 13 May 06 09:49 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone,

I thought I would give one of my brickwalls a go on here.
Frances KEENE married in 1838 in St James Westminster. On the Parish Register,  her father was given as John Keene, Tailor and their address was 22 Sackville street.  I have been told this was a haven for Tailors at the time.  Could SKS check that address for me on the 1841 census please, to see if they were still there 3 years later.   I have never been able to crack this family.
Many thanks in advance

Armed Forces / marine engineer's machinist
« on: Saturday 13 May 06 09:06 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone,
My grandfather William James Hillier (born 1871, Deptford) was found on the  1891 census as a marine engineer's machinist.  His father William Hillier was listed as a marine boilermaker.   On the 1901 census William James Hillier is listed as a general engineer.
Can I presume that a Marine engineer's machinist is Royal Navy?
Would he have left the Navy - as a general engineer?
If so can anyone tell me where I may find their records?
My dads maternal and paternal trees are short stumpy little things. Elusive  characters that they are, so any pointers would be appreciated.
Cheers Pam

Hi everyone.
Believe it or now we can't find this person on the 1881. Odd as it seems. Any help gratefully accepted.

Can someone please help find Jemima HILLIER, and spelling variants Helyar, Helyer, Hellier etc etc
Born MERE, Wilstshire, circa 1852,
Married Edward James KNIGHT, 17th October, 1881 St James Norlands, Middlesex.
I have lost her in the 1881. Her future spouse "appears" to be living with his Aunt and brother  BUT no sign of Jemima.
Last seen 1871 census aged 19, Mere, Wiltshire, domestic servant.
Tried soundex and variables with no success.
I am hoping that some kind soul will find her, where I have failed.
Cheers Sunny

The Common Room / Worwood family
« on: Monday 02 January 06 23:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Trish and others
I have been struggling with Worwoods in my tree for a while now.
But according to my records,
Charlotte Elizabeth Worwood married 1841 to Jonathon William Fenton. I hope this helps narrow things down a bit.
I Worwoods are in your tree I would love to contact you.
The weird thing is I have a Charlotte Elizabeth Worwood as the mother of my gr grandfather. From the PR, James Thomas Worwood bapt 1836 Rotherhithe, parents James Thomas  and charlotte Elizabeth Worwood. I cannot find anything on this family prior to this. I was wondering whether, he was her brother or something and JT junior was born out of wedlock.
Love to hear from you.
