Lanarkshire / 1850 Street Maps Bridgeton etc
« on: Wednesday 12 July 23 19:51 BST (UK)  »
I am again returning to researching my brick wall.  Scotlands People kindly had a look and found the Petition filed by Margaret Burk in support of a Paternity Order against Robert Scott.  The child Jessie was born in 1849 but Petition was not brought until 1853 and they originally checked only 1849.  The additional information is Margaret Burk and Robert Scott had known each other for several years and in 1848 met in the evenings at the home of James McAllister Old Dalmarnock Road, Bridgeton where they became intimate.  According to Margaret she was courted with a view to marriage.  Ha Ha.  Robert would then walk her home to her mothers house at 200 Main Street, Bridgeton.  Interesting description of what took place, where (the Close), when and how often.  Robert admitted he was the father and paid some insignificant amounts before the Order was granted.   The Sheriffs officer in Glasgow Adam Dickson (and his brother James Dickson as witness) did not personally find Robert Scott at number 4 East Rose Street Glasgow but gave the documents to a servant at the address.  I cannot seem to manipulate the mapping on NLS or FindMyPast to triangilate these addresses  and would appreciate some assistance.  I have found a couple of McAllister, McAalster on the 1841 and 1851 Census on Dalmarnock and am looking for connections.  Is it possible to print a street map with Dalmarnock, Main and East Rose and secondly, the history of 4 East Rose Street as I do not see any Scotts or familar names on the Census.  Maybe a map would help narrow the number of Robert Scotts in the general area.  I am guessing 20-30 years old. Thank you for reading!  Anna

World War Two / Naval Records Question
« on: Friday 21 October 22 17:12 BST (UK)  »
Received my Dads records for WW2 sometime ago and just now having a good look at where he served.  From Apr 44 t0 Jul 44 he was assigned to Duty LSE 2 and then to Naval Party 1529. He was assigned to other ships prior to and after these dates.  They did provide details of Naval Party 1529 but I do not see anything that refers to LSE 2.  Thanks for reading.

Midlothian / 1814 Setton Jean Burial Leith South
« on: Tuesday 10 August 21 15:35 BST (UK)  »
How to I find the cemetery for this burial?  The OPR says “relict of the deceased Mr Douglas.  From her house Nicholsons Street died of a Decline.  Buried the Foot of the grave close to the head of William Scott’s ground at the Centar”.  Age 71.   The date is 8 Jan 1814.  I am trying to confirm if she is the widow of George Douglas, a writer in Edinburgh.

Hello again, my cousins were thrilled to see their Great Grandmother!  So I am once again asking for a restore of my parents, both sets of Grandparents all deceased and me about two years old.  This photo was stuck in a frame and I damaged my Granddad upper right of photo.  Any improvement much appreciated.

I am hoping you can work your magic, I so appreciate what you have done in the past.  I have very few family photos.  This my parents wedding photo taken n the Ex-Servicemens Hall in Cambuslang 15 Oct 1945.  I am mostly interested in the woman sitting in the first row far right when looking at the photo straight on.  I am assuming this is my great grandmother as she is sitting next to my paternal grandfather.  I have never seen a photo of her.  She died in February of 1950 age 71.  This photo is on cardboard stock and the photography studio is Momento Photographs 20 Dixon Street, Glasgow.  I have tried searching for them without success.

I found this torn photo recently and have put a bit of tape on the back.  I am the little blond in the front, the others are my Grandmother, mother, two aunts and cousins.  I have very few photos from these years, especially of my grandmother.  I would greatly appreciate any improvements that are possible.

Lanarkshire / Barony 1851 Census
« on: Tuesday 27 October 20 16:24 GMT (UK)  »
My ancestors lived on Main Street 622/242/5, I am searching for a Robert Scott age 25 to 35 close to their location.  622 is Barony but what is 242/5?  I have a copy of the 1851 Census from SP and it has Parish as Calton, Burgh of Glasgow, Household 18, 220 Main Street.  I did find a post commenting on the size of Barony in 1851 so am assuming Calton was writhing Barony at that time.  Look forward to replies.

Lanarkshire / Looking for Ann Jack Birth abt 1781
« on: Monday 14 September 20 20:37 BST (UK)  »
Ann Jack married John Neil 1819 and died 1862 age 85, Rutherglen, her parents on death record David Jack and Helen Morton.  The ages on Census were 50 on 1841, 62 on 1851 and 78 on 1861.  I am sure the first two Census are correct as the two youngest children are on those records and they were living very close to their other sons Robert and John.  All the children of David and Helen are indexed on SP except Ann and I did not find it on family search although my skills there are definitely lacking.  Would appreciate assistance on narrowing this birthdate,  If Ann was born in 1781 she was too old to give birth to their last child in 1829.
