Somerset / Trying to find surname for my Ann
« on: Tuesday 28 July 09 21:48 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
Could any one help me find out the surname of my ancestor, she married Isaac Dix, I believe in West Harptree about 1815. All the couple's children were born there, but their christening records do not give her surname. I have tried searching Parish Records on line but have not been able to find a marriage. Unfortunately Ann died in 1850 so no info on where she was from could be gleaned from the 1851 Census!
Grateful for any help
many thanks

United States of America / Marriage and death in Montana
« on: Wednesday 08 October 08 19:47 BST (UK)  »
Hello
I am trying to clarify some information about a relative who emigrated to USA from UK in 1888. I have documentation of her arrival at New York 8th Dec 1888 aboard the ship 'Adriatic' from Liverpool UK. She then apparently travelled to White Sulphur Springs Montana and got married there on 16th December 1888. Would it have been feasible to get thru customs etc at Ellis Island, New York and then get across to Montana in 8 days??
Can anyone tell me if it is possible for me to look up whether this marriage did take place and if so obtain a copy of the cert? Also is it possible to look up same person's apparent death in Montana 10 yrs later?
Would be grateful for any advice.
Many thanks

Monmouthshire / Burial after death in Ystrad Mynach
« on: Monday 11 December 06 18:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there, :)

Could anyone advise me where a person who died in Ystrad Mynach in 1962 might be buried? I cannot see a graveyard in that area on the Cemetery listings.
Is Ystrad Mynach still in Monmouthshire or is it now Glamorgan? I only live 15 miles away but don't know the area very well, sorry to be so dense!! :-\  ???
Forgive me if I should have posted this on the Glamorgan page.
Thanks very much, you are all so helpful on this site.  :-*
Best wishes to you all
Mrs F  :)  :-*  :-*

Somerset Completed Lookup Requests / From Somerset to the Welsh Valleys
« on: Thursday 07 September 06 17:29 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to work out how my gggg grandfather managed to move his family of 6 children from the village of West Harptree in Somerset to the Rhondda Valley in South Wales in the late 1860's.
I assume they must have come across by boat from Bristol or possibly by train, but how could a poor man afford to pay the passage for a family of 8?? I was just wondering if anybody could give me any info on the migration of workers from Somerset to the Coalmines in South Wales? or does anyone else have a similar story??
I am really intrigued and would be delighted if someone could enlighten me!

Best Wishes
