London and Middlesex / JAMES AND BRIDGET SULLIVAN look up please - stuck!
« on: Friday 05 April 24 00:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

Would love you help in finding out more information about James and Bridget Sullivan - info i have is:

James Sullivan - born Tooley Street, Bermondsey in 1860 - died in St Olave, Bermondsey 1897
Bridget (unknown maiden name) - born in Ireland in 1860

They had two children that I know of - Bridget Mary in 18th Jan 1883 and Margaret in 1885 both born in Bermondsey - i think St Olave

I cannot find a marriage record for James and Bridget and so I don't know her maiden name and have only census records to go by which puts her year of birth as 1860 and that she was born in Ireland but doesn't even say which town.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi all,

I'm searching for Annie Dempsey and George Mead, they are the parents of George James Mead born 1905 in St Olave, London. George James's birth cert states he was born 6th June 1905 on Swan Lane in Rotherhithe to George and Annie Mead formally Dempsey - I can't seem to find any info on them. I found what i believe to be George James aged 5 in 1911 as a boarder in Collingwood College, 29 Leyland Road, Lee - although this isn't confirmed to be him. George James went on the marry Annie Terry in 1925.

Please can anyone help, i've been looking for hours and haven't come up with anything! I can't find dates of birth or death dates and i can't find a record of their marriage either.

Hi all,

Info i have -
Agnes (Nancy) Steele was born in 1845 in Ireland, the daughter of William McCrory Steele. She married Robert Forsyth on 2 November 1867 in Ballymena, Antrim. They had three children in 12 years. She died on 16 January 1889 in Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire, at the age of 44.
I got her fathers name from her marriage certificate but that's as far as I got.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'd really appreciate it. I'm really stuck!

Cork / death records - CRONIN/DONOVAN/BEVAN lookup please
« on: Thursday 29 February 24 00:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

I have an ancestor called Kate born Cronin who married James Donovan and later married Roger Bevan after James' death.

What I've managed to collect -
When Kate Cronin was born in 1866 in Cork, her father, Jeremiah, was 27, and her mother, Catherine, was 27. She married James Donovan in Cork, on 26 May 1885 when she was 19 years old in the presence of Timothy Cronin and Margaret Donovan (witnesses) and they had two children together (Mary and Kate). She then married Roger Bevan when they both lived in the workhouse and they had one daughter together (Maggie). She lived in Watergrasshill, Cork, on 2 April 1911.

I can't find any information on her death anywhere, not sure where I'm going wrong! Can anyone help?

Thank you!

Scotland / Unable to find anything on great-great grandfather
« on: Friday 12 January 24 13:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

I’m a member of MyHeritage and for the life of me I can’t seem to find any records relating to birth or ancesters of my great great grandfather - is anyone able to point me in right direction of where I can find something?

Name : William Clark (c.1859-1938)
Spouse : Elizabeth Clark (nee McKinnon)

I have him down as being Scottish and he married in Dumbartonshire in 1882, one of his sons (my great grandfather) Alexander was born in Glasgow with some of his younger siblings being born in Belfast, N.ireland. He died in Belfast in 1938.

He must have left Scotland around 1894 as one daughter was born in Whiteinch, Scotland and then I have him down as being in Belfast from another daughters birth in 1895 and on the census in Belfast in 1901.

I can’t find a record of his birth or his parents - does anyone know where else I can look? Before his marriage in 1882 I can’t find record of him.

Cork / Cannot find records for my great-great grandparents
« on: Tuesday 31 May 22 12:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I'm unable to find any birth/marriage/death records for my great-great grandparents. I'm relying on what my grandmother has told me about her grandparents.

I'm a subscriber to myhertiage and have looked on there and have searched on the Irish Geneaoly site with no results matching.

I've been told the following -

John Costello 1885-1947 born in Dublin, died in Cork
Mary Costello (born Garins) 1887-1961, born in Cork and died in London, England
They had a son called John in 1917 who is my great grandfather and a son called James circa 1920. There could be other children, but these are the only ones I'm aware of.

I have a feeling the surname Garins could be spelled wrong or maybe is wrong, my grandmother is adamant it was Garins and presumes it was spelled that way.

Please can someone point me in the right direction - I would love to find out details about their siblings and parents if possible. Don't know where to look for more info

Thank you!

The Common Room / which is correct?
« on: Friday 12 February 21 15:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

My great great grandmother was Mary Jane Johnstone born Forsythe circa 1871 - she got married and died in Belfast/Antrim, Northern Ireland. I got this date from the age she was when she died so it's pretty accurate. I'm looking for her birth certificate to hopefully find her parents but have come across two Mary Forsythes born in northern Ireland in 1871 - neither give a middle name on birth cert so could genuinely be either - where do i go from here?

Hi all,

Can't quite make out the wording of this birth cert - I'm rubbish at this stuff!

The entry for Mary Jane is what I'm looking at.
