Sussex / Mrs Lergarge of 48a London Road Bexhill on Sea, England in 1930
« on: Wednesday 11 October 23 09:53 BST (UK)  »
Henry Peter Audley was born 24th March 1908 according to both the 1939 register and his US naturalisation papers dated 1944.. In the 1939 Register he is recorded as Peter Henry Audley living at Fountain Inn in Cuckfield, Sussex and described as a Teacher at LCC Cookery School, London.

In 1930 he crossed the boarder from USA into Canada as Henry Audley. On that crossing he gives his nearest relative in the UK as his mother Mrs Lergarge  of 48a London Road Bexhill on Sea, England. I am not sure of the spelling of his mother’s name, and I have attached an image of her name and address to this Message from the record of the crossing.  The George Smith is the father of his first wife who he married in 1929 and I have not as yet ordered a copy of his marriage certificate.

Can  anybody interpret his mother’s surname.
    • Have I got the spelling correct?
    • Did a Mrs Lergrange really live at 48a London Road, Bexhill on Sea, England in 1930 or is this fictious?
    • When did she become Mrs Lergrange?

Thanks In anticipation of any help

Lovell Audley Le Bas was born 8th March 1846 and baptised at St Marylebone Westminster on 24th May 1846. The the time of his baptism is abode is recorded as Cleveland Street. His father is recorded as William Audley and his mother  Ann Frances Le Bas. In the  GRO index his birth is registered in Q1 1846 at St Pancras Vol 1 page 382.

In the 1851 census he is recorded as Lovel Le Bars (sic) at 17, Cleveland Street St Pancras (HO107/1494/333/15) His mother is recorded as Fanny Le Bars, a widow and his father is recorded as W Ludley (sic) a visitor.

I believe his mother died in Q3 1853 as Fanny Audley aged 40 St Pancreas vol 1b  page 27 ( I have no evidence to show Fanny and William ever married!!)

In the 1861 his father is at Fur cottage, Putney,  RG 9/374/49/6 ,now married., and recorded as  William Audley.

My problem is that I cannot find any record of Lovell Audley Le Bas after the 1851 census. Can any body please help?

Thanks Wirral Lad

London and Middlesex / St Pancras Old Church Baptism of Alfred Audley 21st November 1819
« on: Tuesday 12 September 23 09:00 BST (UK)  »
Dear All,
I have attached to this message two images of transcripts from two well known websites for the same baptism namely that of Alfred Audley on 21st November 1819 at what I believe is the same church.

The transcripts give different names for both parents. One of the websites contains an image of the page of the parish register but it is two faint for me to read.

Can any person who contributes to this website give me a correct transcript for the baptism.

I hope that by adding these images I am not transgressing any copywrite rules

Kilkenny / Graignamanagh Parish Records
« on: Saturday 26 August 23 17:28 BST (UK)  »
I have been been looking at the Roman Catholic Parish Register for the parish of Graignamanagh county Kilkenny on the National Library of Ireland website.
I am particularly interested in two baptisms that took place on 24th August 1855 namely:

Baptism of Ellen of Pat Dugons and Ellen Adly and
Baptism of Maria of John Adly and Sarah Hatchet

After the  two entries there is a  } ,a curly bracket and after the curly bracket the word 'Adulto' written above the word Graig.

Does anybody know what the word 'Adulto' means is it a place?

Also after the words 'Adulto' above 'Graig' is says witnesses and gives two names.
Does anybody know why the parish register for these two baptisms would have the names of the witnesses recorded when all the other baptisms do not have the names of the witnesses or sponsors recorded.
I have an image of the entry that  makes it clearer than my words but I do not wish to breach copyright rules by posting the image.

Many thanks in anticipation of you help

Was it the Workhouse?
