Denbighshire / Denbighshire Archives Reference No.
« on: Saturday 27 February 16 00:25 GMT (UK)  »
I've come across a reference in the Archives to a 1605 document DD/WY/807 regarding a Hugh Salesbury and Bodyngharad.   Does anyone know if it is possible to learn from the reference number what type of document this might be?

Any help appreciated.

Caernarvonshire / 1808 marriage Clynnog Vawr
« on: Monday 16 February 15 19:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there
I have found a marriage (family search) Dec 23, 1808 between John Roberts and Jane Morris.  Does anyone know if the parish registers for Clynnog Vawr are available on findmypast or ancestry?   Ideally I want to view or obtain a copy of the register entry with witness signatures etc.  if that is feasible.

Cheshire Lookup Requests / Landican burial 1950
« on: Friday 26 September 14 10:34 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help with a look up for a burial at Landican?  My grandmother died Feb 20, 1950.  Her name was Annie Elizabeth Carrington at 45 Whitford Road, Birkenhead.  Age on death certificate is 68.   My grandfather may be buried with her.  His name was Robert Francis Carrington, deceased age 78 on Oct 6, 1962 at St Catherine's Hospital Birkenhead.    I know my auntie Barbara Carrington, who died in 1996 in Maghull Homes was cremated, and supposedly her ashes were buried with her mum at Landican.

Deeply grateful for any assistance - even if there is an email for Landican that would be helpful. Heather in Canada

Technical Help / Flip-Pal Scanner Question
« on: Sunday 12 January 14 08:47 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone else have a Flip-Pal?  I've just bought one and experiencing a problem.  Not sure if it is me or the machine but all the images have a shadowing white line image running through them.  It's not where the software "stitches" the image - that works brilliantly.  I've tried emailing support but waiting to hear back.  Any ideas?

Caernarvonshire / Roberts Family of Rhiwlas and Llanddeiniolen
« on: Wednesday 19 June 13 08:26 BST (UK)  »
Hello Everyone
I have a Roberts Llanddeiniolen mystery in my own family. I'm hoping some kind soul can help me fill in some more pieces of my puzzle:

Time Line
c1831 My paternal grt grt grandfather was born David Roberts at Cefnybraich, Rhiwlas, Llanddeiniolen.  (age 22 at marriage in 1853 and age 72 at burial in 1904)
1835 David's father (I think!) was John Roberts, a quarryman, of CefnyBraich, who died age 47 and was buried at St Cedol Pentir September 8, 1835.
1838 Marriage at Llanddeiniolen Parish Church, Thomas Williams (s/o William Thomas) and Jane Williams, full age, widow, Cefny Braich, father William Morris
1841 Census, David age 9 is living at CefnyBraich in this household
   Thomas Williams, 45, Farmer
   Jane Williams, 50
   John Roberts, 20, Slate quarryman
   Thomas Roberts, 15, Slate quarryman
   Morris Roberts, 15, Slate quarryman
   Jane Roberts, 13
   David Roberts, 9
1848 Morris Jones, died age 21, and was buried with father John Roberts in grave J055 at St Cedol
1851 Census the picture becomes a bit clearer, at CefnyBraich we have
Thomas Williams, Head, age 52, Farmer of 9 acres of land,
   Jane Williams, wife, age 61
John Roberts, son in law, wid, age 30, Quarryman
Jane Roberts, daughter in law, unmarried, age 23, House servant
David Roberts, son in law, unmarried, age 19, Quarryman
   all born Llanddeiniolen
1853 Marriage at Llanddeiniolen Parish Church
David Jones, age 22, Bachelor, Quarryman, CefnBraich, son of John Roberts, Quarryman
Anne Davies, age 21, Spinster, PenyFfridd, daughter of David Williams, Quarryman
Have found them and their descendants on all subsequent censuses

I have found baptisms Llanddeiniolen Parish Church for all David's siblings, indicating father John Roberts & Jane his wife.  The only one that eludes me is David himself.

I have also found a baptism for a Jane Morris, father William in 1790 at Llanddeiniolen.

I've not been able to find a marriage for a John Roberts to a Jane Williams or Jane Morris.

This family emigrated aboard the ship Washington Allston of Boston on April 27,1847.  Arriving in Boston Mass June 5, 1847.   One of their daughters Katherine, about age 3, died on the journey on May 22, 1847.  They appear on the US 1850 Census of Courtland Wisconsin.   Rowland Jones was a farmer in Aber in 1841 and I'm curious to learn more about why they left Wales.  Would it have been primarily for religious freedom or?

Merionethshire / John Wynne als Salisbury will 1676
« on: Saturday 09 July 11 12:39 BST (UK)  »
John Wynne als Salisbury of Meyarth Gwyddelwern was married to Alice vch Hugh ap John Salesbury of Clocaenog.   I understand that the term alias was sometimes used in the case of illegitimacy.  My question is would the sons have taken the name Wynne or Salisbury?  The will refers two sons as Robert Wynne & Richard Wynne but a third son Hugh and all the daughters do not have the Wynne mentioned in the will.   One of the witnesses was a Humffrey Salesbury but I do not know where he ties in.

Regarding Meyarth I see that there was a village by that name but also there is a Grade II listed building Meyarth Hall.  I think that John Wynne als Salisbury probably lived at the hall.   Sadly it is uphill from the google street view so no clear view of the building itself :'(    Does anyone else get goosebumps from looking on street view at farmland and thinking my ancestors saw the same sight 300 plus years ago?    Would it be very cheeky of me to contact the current residents to ask for a picture? :P
