Sussex Lookup Requests / HELSDOWN births in Hastings lookup please
« on: Tuesday 29 August 06 11:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi
My hubby's grandfather Arthur (1896) was the son of William Helsdown (1871) and Sarah (1874).
I cannot find any other births for this couple and im spending a fortune sending off for birth certs for possible siblings for Arthur!
They married in in 1895 in Hastings and lived in Hastings all their lives. Is there any online database where i can search or anyone who has access to a database and has the time to look for me?
I cannot get to Hastings myself or i would.
Kind regards

Norfolk Lookup Requests / Look up Birth in East Ruston. Norfolk Please
« on: Monday 21 August 06 16:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
This is my first posting on the Norfolk site but i believe my tree starts in Norfolk now and not Sussex.
I am researching John HELSDEN (aka HELSDOWN, ELSDOWN). He married Jane Foster in 1820 at Guestling, Sussex. However i cant find anything on him prior to this marriage and have reached my 'brick wall'. On ancestry there are many Helsdens registered in East Ruston, Norfolk and im hoping to find him there. I think he would have been born c 1790 - 1800 (he was aged 40 in the 1841 census, sussex).
I would be so very grateful for any help.
Just to clarify...JOHN HELSDEN. BIRTH ? 1790 - 1780 probably EAST RUSTON. NORFOLK.

Many Thanks in anticipation  ;D

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Lillian Lund nee England of Wakefield. When did she die?
« on: Thursday 17 August 06 23:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I have been having a nightmare with this one!! I hope somebody with more experience can help?
Lillian England born 1891, Attercliffe, Sheffield, married Ernest Lund (1889 Leeds) in St Andrews Parish Church, Wakefield on 28 Jul 1912.
3 children (that ive found so far ) Harry 1913, Ernest 1916 and William 1918 all born in Wakefield.
William (my grandfather) was 'adopted' by a couple that told him nothing apart from he had kept his real name of Lund.
My dilemma....why was he given up for adoption? I thought that maybe Lillian died in childbirth but i cant find her death in BMDs or maybe William died (he was a Miner) young down the pit, but you guessed it, i cant find him dead in the BMDs either!
Can anyone help me please?
Kindest regards

Hi,
I think this may be a cheeky request but im asking anyway incase somebody can help me.
I have come to a standstill with my tree and despite the invaluable help from Rootsweb members i still cannot go any further.
Would you be able to look at JOHN HELSDEN marrying JANE FOSTER in Guestling, 13 Mar 1820.
I would be very grateful to know any other details relating to this marriage, in particular the name of John's father and where he was from (John that is)
I would go myself but i live in Gloucestershire and have no transport, except the train. Obviously if nobody can help then i will make the trip but i thought iut was worth asking incase somebody can help.
Kindest Regards

Sussex Lookup Requests / Marriage Search Please for Guestling 1820
« on: Thursday 17 August 06 00:35 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Please can you help?
I am trying to find where John Helsdown (Elsdown, Helsdon) originates from so that i can get further back with this branch of my family. He is known as Elsdown on 1841 census, his son James is Helsdown on the 1851 and consecutive census's and this is the name that has continued.
John married Jane Foster 13 Mar 1820 in Guestling (according to LDS). I think that Jane is from the area but i don't think that John Is. (According to the 1841 census, he is an Ostler, living in Hastings and from out of the area)
I would be so grateful for any help you can give me to solve this mystery.
Kind regards
Annie

Sussex / Help needed PLEASE
« on: Wednesday 16 August 06 23:16 BST (UK)  »
I have reached my brick wall  :-\
Can you help me please?  I have been looking at the HELSDOWN side of my tree and cant get past James Helsdown 1829 Hastings. I believe he was one of 10 children to John HELSDON c1799 and poss from Guestling, and Jane Foster 1801, Guestling.
My problem is that i cant get past John Helsdon. I can find nothing about him whatsoever! I dont know for sure where he was from, his occupation, date of death etc. The only info i have (and that is not certain) is that he married 1820 in Guestling but i have no reference to obtain the certificate.
I am soooo frustrated!
