World War One / Disappointed!
« on: Thursday 19 April 07 05:06 BST (UK)  »
G'Day All!
Am now in possession of WW1 medal card,s for Paternal and Maternal G'Dad,s,or so I hope in the case of the Paternal one.
He didn't make it back,no details to go on except name, and guessed at Regt: His card only give,s award,s for two medal,s.Victory and British, which I understand is usual for K.I.A,S.
The only other note,s are reference no; alongside Victory,(roll and page no;)and his service number.
So how do I find more about this man?
All pointer,s welcome.
            Goggy. ;) ;D

World War One / reduced to cadre,+Army field artillery
« on: Thursday 29 March 07 06:24 BST (UK)  »
G'Day all!
First world war regiment,s etc;with heavy losses were either taken up by other unit,s or disbanded into new unit,s,is that correct?
To keep a 'cadre' to retain same unit, meant keeping enough men to train the new one,s?
Army field artillery is the term used when the W.D/M.O.D took over the County Palatine volunteer field arty;unit,s?
        Goggy. ;) ;D

Lancashire / the bridge garston?
« on: Thursday 29 March 07 06:08 BST (UK)  »
G'Day Garstonite,s!
IN 1901 census a possible rellie was a 'holder up' in the bridge yard, and his brother a labourer in the bridge yard.
What did a 'holder up' uphold !The bridge or traffic when bridge was raised,if it was?
Only been there once to join a 'nana boat and didn't have time to look around, but did see the bridge in the background.
           Goggy. ;) ;D
