Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Not the father
« on: Wednesday 09 October 19 20:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I got my mum and dad to have their DNA tested about a year ago. The results came back and it seems to have thrown a real spanner in the works and I am struggling to find the outcome.

It would appear that the man my dad thought was his father, was not.

The test also suggests that the man my mum thought was her father, is not.

My dad's was not a surprise really, I think. Although my dad thought the test was wrong. My dad sadly died in January so he will never know any outcomes that come about from my research.

My mum's however was a big surprise.

The thing is how do I find out where to take my research to identify who the fathers are?

Is this sort of thing common with DNA tests?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi

I think I maybe asking a lot but is there any chance someone could have a go at restoring this photo. My dad died last week and this is the only photo I have of him as a baby with his mum and possible dad.

Thanks you

World War One / The Canaries April 1917
« on: Tuesday 24 July 18 20:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi
My cousin has found an old photo that we think may have someone we are related to in it. Our great grandfather, he was in the first world war in the 5th Gloucester Regiment. He was Thomas Henry Greening (birth unregistered) approx 1893 Tewkesbury.

This photo however says Canaries April 1917 on it. I cannot see him in the photo but on the back it says with love from Tom.

I am no good with military history and wondered if someone could tell me what regiment this is as we have no idea what we are looking for.

Thanking you in advance

The Common Room / Researching a Publican - CLOSED
« on: Sunday 06 May 18 19:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am trying to find out who the Publican for the Seven Stars Inn, Timsbury, Somerset was in 1944. All I know is the surname was Bush.

Is there a website that tells you more about researching publicans after the 1911 census?

Thanks

Hi

For the last decade I have used Family Tree Maker on a windows laptop and have got on fine with it. However I have now treated myself to an iMac and I am trying to find out what software runs with success on it. I have thought about buying the latest version of FTM for the iMac but I have also thought about the possiblity of trying something new, something designed for the iMac. I have considered buying Windows for the iMac and using the software I already have, but I feel the need for a change, something new and modern looking.

So does anyone have any suggestions about software that runs well on the iMac. I have tried trial versions of both Heredis, but do not like the American date system, and I have tried MacFamilyTree 7.

Thanks for your input

The Common Room / Obituaries and death details
« on: Wednesday 23 January 13 22:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
We have just discovered that a relative died 18 months/2 years ago in the Manchester/Great Manchester area. So I am trying to find out exactly when/how they died by finding an obituary or by finding whether they were cremated or buried and where it took place. What other sources should I look at to find out more information? Can I just phone the Manchester record office? Will they be able to tell me anything?

Thanks

Sussex / Burchett family
« on: Monday 14 May 12 16:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I have not done much research in the last few months and what I done has been on the Somerset side of the family. Well just having bought FTM 2012 I thought  would start updating my research and on looking at my nan's family on the 1911 census I notice that it says that her parents had two children who were born alive and one only now surviving (my nan), obviously the other died in infancy.
My nan (Lilian A B Burchett) was born in Brightling to George W. Burchett and Ann F. Burgess and on the 1911 census they live in Rushlake Green. I have had a look on Ancestry at births for the 10 year period from when George and Ann married until the 1991 census and there are a few Burchetts born in the Hailsham registration district so I was wondering if anyone had any parish records which they could look up this family and tell me if they can find another baby being baptised to George and Ann.
I am not sure if my nan was baptised in Brightling, where she was born in 1906, or whether they had her baptised in Warbleton, I only suggest this as it seems to be a family tradition that we were all baptied at St Mary's. If family members have not lived close by then they have gone back to be christened there.
I would be grateful if any one has records if they could look up the possible other baby's baptism.
Thanks

Sussex Lookup Requests / Wilmshurst/Kemp
« on: Saturday 01 August 09 22:59 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I was wondering if someone could do a look up for me. I have James Wilmshurst married (24/04/1829) to Ann Kemp and would like to know more about them. From the little knowledge that I have gained I know that James was born roughly 1808/10 Warbleton and Ann abt 1811 Warbleton. If anyone could look up when they were baptised and who their parents were that would be a great help. I think James dad may possibly be Henry, but I am not sure.

I will keep my fingers crossed for any information.

Thank you

Paula
