Lanarkshire / Govan burial place & name
« on: Friday 27 April 07 12:25 BST (UK)  »
One of my ancestors Ann McFarlane (nee Duncan) died on the 27th July 1861 in Govan. Does anyone know how I can find out which cemetary she is buried in, assuming she is buried in Govan?

I gained the information from her death certificate and I would also like help in finding the address of where she died, it looks like it is written Hyndford Place but I could not find this in any maps. An image of the address from the death certificate is attached.

Thanks for any help,
Jason McFarlane

Australia / Yatala prison records lookup please
« on: Wednesday 29 November 06 09:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, if it is possible I would like a lookup of Yatala prison records.

The lookup I am after is for my great-great grandfather Thomas FIELD. He was born in South Africa 30 Jun 1842 and emigrated to Australia with his mother on "Commodore" in 1853. He died 12 Mar 1921.

He was married twice the first time to Winifred LAWSON in Gawler, South Australia, 9 Oct 1866. The second time to (Frances) Adelaide (Ann) TAPLIN in Adelaide, South Australia 23 Dec 1876.

The story I have heard is that he was arrested for armed robbery and sentenced to death. The sentence was reduced to life and then reduced again such that he was only in jail for a few years.

The other part of the story is that while he was serving time his first wife remarried. If this is correct then he must have committed the crime/been in jail between 1866 and 1876.

I have found that it is possible to order these records in microfiche form, but maybe someone has access to an electronice form of the records if it exists ??? The link I found was http://www.archives.sa.gov.au/publications/orderinds.html and the title is Alphabetical index to Prisoners' registers, Yatala Labour Prison. 1866 - 1931.

Can anyone please help confirm/reject this wonderfull little story :)

Thanks in advance,
Jason McFarlane

Kent / PADDICK/CRADDICK Marriage/Birth lookup - Maidstone
« on: Tuesday 28 November 06 08:05 GMT (UK)  »
Hi , I am trying to find family information and get a marriage lookup for Henry Dunwill PADDICK and Maria CRADDICK.

Most of the information I have is from family, but I also have some from the IGI which I would like to try and confirm. Where I have conflicting information I have put the source in brackets or if the information is only from the IGI then it is in brackets as well.

Henry Dunwill PADDICK (in the IGI he is also recorded as Henry Dunmill PADDICK but I am pretty sure this is a typo)
b. 1811, (Maidstone, Kent - from IGI)
m. 13 Nov 1833, (All Saints - from IGI), Maidstone, Kent
d. 16 May 1872, Clarendon, South Australia

Maria CRADDICK (maybe CRADDOCK - ship lists, or CRADDUCK - IGI)
b. 1817 (Alverstoke, Hampshire - from family, or Maidstone, Kent - from IGI)
d. 10 May 1886, Clarendon, South Australia

Both migrated to South Australia on the "Winchester" in 1838. On the shipping lists they are listed as Henry Dunwill PADDICK and Maria PADDICK (nee CRADDOCK).

It would be great if I could confirm their birth information and possibly find out about their parents.

Thanks in advance,
Jason McFarlane

South Africa / FIELD/HARRIS lookup please
« on: Friday 24 November 06 11:17 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I am trying to find information on Thomas FIELD and his wife Ann (nee HARRIS). I have the following information:

Thomas FIELD
b. 1797/1798? England
m. 8 Jul 1841, Capetown, Cape of Good Hope, South Africa
d. 12 Nov 1895, Adelaide, South Australia
Emigrated to South Australia 1853 on "Lady Sandys"

Ann FIELD (nee HARRIS)
b. 1816?, Ireland? or South Africa (from the IGI, so I am not sure of the source)
d. 26 Aug 1900, Richmond, South Australia
Emigrated to South Australia 1853 on "Commodore"

I am not sure about where Ann HARRIS was born and I do not know when Thomas FIELD travelled to South Africa, although it must have been prior to 1841 when he married there.

I do have information on one of their sons, also Thomas FIELD (my great-great grandfather).

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Jason McFarlane

Australia / Death lookup - SA - BUDDLE
« on: Friday 24 November 06 10:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, Could someone please help me with a death register lookup for John BUDDLE and Mary BUDDLE (nee DIXON).

John BUDDLE
b. 1826 Kent, England
m. 14 Oct 1848 Deal, Kent, England
d. ??

Mary BUDDLE (nee DIXON)
b. 1827 Kent, England
d. 30 Jan 1899, Clarendon, South Australia

They emigrated with their children to South Australia on "Olivia" in 1853 (from SA shipping lists and from the link mentioned below).

I have another post for getting information about them http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,198051.0.html and have been able to find out a good deal about their families in England.

I am missing death information about John, and if anyone is able to do a lookup then I would also be interested in getting other information from the death certificate for Mary as I only have the date of her death.

Thanks in advance,
Jason McFarlane

Kent / BUDDLE Family - Deal, Margate?
« on: Thursday 23 November 06 10:56 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I am trying to find some more information about John BUDDLE. The information I have is that he was born in 1826 England? and was married to Mary DIXON 14 Oct 1848 in Deal, Kent.

He immgrated to South Australia in 1853 on "Olivia".

I have searched the IGI and found the John BUDDLE that matches the information I have and includes his marriage but no information about parents. However, I have also found a John BUDDLE who was born 20 Nov 1825 and christened 12 Jan 1826 in Saint Johns Hawley Square-Wesleyan, Margate, Kent. This record has his parents.

Can anybody help to find out if these two records are the same John BUDDLE or at least help to find out who his parents are.

Thanks,
Jason McFarlane

Devon / KEYSER Family - Plymouth
« on: Tuesday 21 November 06 12:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I would like help finding information about Mary Ann KEYSER (my great-great-great grandmother) and family.

I have posted another topic which has given me a wealth of information about her husband
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,196777.0.html and now I hope to find out more about her family.

Mary Ann was born c 1811  nr Plymouth, married William TYZACK 9.9.1884 in Adelaide, South Australia, died 15.12.1860 Pt Adelaide, South Australia. (this information is from the Bio Index of SA 1836-1885, posted by Sashar).

She arrived in South Australia 1840-03-10 on Orissa from Plymouth 1839-10-31 via Capetown 1840-01-11. I found this information in the South Australian Passenger and Shipping Lists on the Internet and know that her name is in the Register of Emigrant Labourers Applying for a Free Passage to South Australia 1836-1841.

Thanks for any help.

Regards,
Jason McFarlane

Renfrewshire / Alexander McFarlane - Greenock
« on: Friday 17 November 06 13:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I would like help in finding information about Alexander McFARLANE. I know that he married Ann (nee Duncan) and that he had at least 4 sons Alexander (my great-great grandfather), Ian, Roderick and Neil.

About my great-great grandfather I know that he was born in Greenock 19 April 1841, died in Adelaide, Australia 11 February 1917. He immigrated to South Australia arriving aboard "Sarah" 1 October 1866.

I assume that my great-great-great grandfather Alexander was born somewhere around 1810-1820, however, I do not know in which order his sons were born so it could even be before that.

I have been told that the family was involved in ship building in Greenock but I have not been able to find any information confirming that. The Alexander McFARLANE that immigrated to Australia built racing yachts so the ship building link could definitely be something.

Hopefully that is enough information to get some help, beyond my great-great grandfather I only have names.

Thanks in advance,
Jason McFarlane

Australia / SA - TYZACK lookup please
« on: Friday 17 November 06 08:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I would like help with finding information on William TYZACK (my great-great-great grandfather) who arrived in South Australia 1840-04-17 on Warrior from London 1839-11-17 via Plymouth 1839-11-27. I found this information in the South Australian Passenger and Shipping Lists on the Internet.

I also know that he later married Mary Ann KEYSER (who I am also requesting a lookup for) but I do not have any information about when he was born or where he came from in the UK.

I have found some mention of a William TYZACK in relation to St. Pauls church in Port Adelaide http://www.history.sa.gov.au/history/sa_history/safacts/stpauls.htm and believe that it may be the same person but am not sure. The article mentions that his daughter Ann McFARLANE laid the foundation stone of the church. The only information I have about any of his children is that he had a daughter Mary Ann who married Alexander McFARLANE (my great-great grandfather).

Thanks in advance,
Jason McFarlane.
