Devon / Searching for Mutley Plain 1861/71 census
« on: Monday 12 February 24 21:53 GMT (UK)  »
Hi.

Sorry if this is a repeated subject.

I'm trying to find out who lived in Mutley Plain, Plymouth in 1861 and 1871 censuses. Specifically the non-Compton Gifford parish side.

I know there were cottages known as Lewis Jones' Cottages. How can I search for these without knowing anyone who lives there?

Basically I just want to go through the pages on Ancestry but you can't seem to do this by purely address.

Thank you in advance.

Phil

Cornwall / James, Mary and Jane Tippet - gone
« on: Friday 31 March 23 16:45 BST (UK)  »
An interesting one, this.

Hi - I have John Teppet marrying Mary Rogers on 19 February 1803 in St Columb Major - should be Tippet.

There may be three baptisms for this couple in 1804, 1806 and 1809 but I am trying to find out what happened to JAMES.

He was baptised 14 January 1821 in Probus.

On 30 Nov 1844, he marries Mary Merrifield in Ladock.

In the 1841 census, he is with Zaccheus Miners and Elizabeth Miners (she is James's sister).

James and Mary have three children - Jane born in 1846, in Ladock and twins, Elizabeth and Charlotte in 1847 but both the latter die in infancy.

No sign of the three of them in 1851 - cannot find any deaths, remarriages or ventures abroad.

Can anyone help please?

Thank you

Phil

Cornwall / James family of Illogan - seeking family 1841 onwards
« on: Saturday 25 March 23 21:32 GMT (UK)  »
Hi - I have Jane James, widow (husband was Richard Willoughby James) in 1851, born Gerrans with children Anna, James and Mary.

Anna is actually married at this point - there is a mistranscription (on the same page) which shows her children's surname as Allam. She married Joseph HATTAM on 1835.

Brother James, born in Illogan, marries Jane Green in 1855 - these two siblings are accounted for....

Both Jane and Joseph (who are on the 1841 census), have disappeared and Mary, currently on the 1851 census, is not there in 1861.

Any help/suggestions welcome. Have checked OPC - ages on the 1841 have probably thrown me.

Cannot find marriages/deaths/burials for them and only two baptisms (James and Mary).

Thank you

Cornwall / John Davey family from Camborne
« on: Monday 27 February 23 20:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hi.

I have John Davey, baptised 1 January 1825 in Cambone - parents Thomas and Mary.

In 1861 he is with family - after that, nothing. Possibly emigrated????

I have looked at Familysearch and have no other means of checking overseas (or rather I'm not aware of any resources that may help).

Think he married Elizabeth Bartlett in 1857.

(Two sisters, Jane G. and Ann (she married Francis Gilbert Richards) went to Victoria, BC, Canada in the latter part of the 1800s).

Another brother, Francis emigrated to Australia in 1855/56ish - died in Townsville, Queensland.

US Lookup Requests / Elizabeth Ann Rodda
« on: Tuesday 21 February 23 20:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi - not sure what information you may need.

Elizabeth drops off the radar around 1891 (she's on the UK census). Born on 14 December 1856 in Camborne, Cornwall.

She also has a sister: Sarah Jane, born in March 1861, also in Camborne.

Their mother is Rosamond/Rosetta/Rose.....born 26 December 1831 in Devon (but I'd be shocked if she turns up!)

Looking for any marriages or appearances on the US census.

Thank you very much, in appreciation.

Phil
