London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Charles & Ethel PATMORE
« on: Friday 19 October 12 10:25 BST (UK)  »
Any help really appreciated re Charles and Ethel Patmore please. I have recently discovered my granfather had a half brother (same mother) called Charles Henry PATMORE born Leyton 1888. After distinguised service in Royal Artillery he married Ethel Richardson in 1916 and after leaving the army in 1920 moved to 54 Old Dover Road Blackheath London.
From here there is a complete blank - did they have children? What was his occupation? Where can I go to find out anything about them.
Thanks for your help and guidance.

The Common Room / Medical Records Access
« on: Sunday 02 July 06 15:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi Folks,

Wondered if anyone had had previous experience in getting access to the medical records of their parents or other relatives?

I have always been told that my mother who died in 1953 when I was a child, died of Leukemia, however, I have just been advised by my aunt, that my mother had a complaint called Lupus which was the cause of her premature death.

Obviously I have had a look into the Lupus side and wondered now if, under new legislation, I would be able to view her medical records if I could track them down?

Dont have a great deal of information apart, obviously her name and date of death, and the hospital in Hackney where she died?

Appreciate any advice or assistance on this?

Thanks.

The Common Room / Coroners Report/Newspaper Reports?
« on: Saturday 20 May 06 15:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi Folks.

Can someone give me some guidance please on how I might be able to track down any newspaper reports or coroners reports relating to a suicide in 1900 in Chelmsford Essex.

It would appear that my G-Grandfather Frederick Smith, age 36, committed suicide by throwing himself into the river Chelmer at Springfield. According to the death certificate I have just received, he was discovered on 15th June 1900.

If anyone knows of any newpapers which might have been in circulation at that time and where there back issues might be held I guess that would help.

Thanks.

Suffolk / JARVIS family - Acton
« on: Monday 03 April 06 12:35 BST (UK)  »
Hi Friends.

Can anyone help me with imformation relating to the Adeline, and Georgina Jarvis?
I have them on the 1901 census living at Adon(?) Green Gt. Walderfield
along with Adeline's parents James and Ursula and her daughter Mary Smith.

Georgina (b.1878) is Adeline's illigitimate daughter (baptised - Georgina L Finch Jarvis - possible connections to a local FINCH family ?) and Mary Smith appears to be the sister of my grandmother Violet who is not mentioned on the 1901 census although born 1900, it would appear that Adeline's husband (Frederick SMITH a local Agricultural Labourer and shown on Violet' s birth certificate as a Private in the Cheshire Regiment (Feb1900) has died soon after Violet's birth, possibly around  late 1900's  but certainly before the census.

Does anyone have any gravestone markings or perhaps marriage information on these people that could give me another lead to tracing possible living relatives?

I have "hit the wall" with this particular branch of the tree and am in need of some new inspiration.

Appreciate any suggestions or information.

Armed Forces / Cheshire Regiment - February 1900
« on: Wednesday 22 February 06 19:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

Can anyone give me some guidance on how I might go about finding out details of a Frederick Smith.

Fred would have been my g-grandfather, and I know very little about him. The only information I have is his name from my grandmothers birth certificate. She was born 24/02/1900 in Sudbury(Suffolk) and her father's occupation is given as "Private Cheshire Regiment"

ANY help appreciated as I have a severe headache from banging it on the wall trying to find a lead.

Thanks.

Suffolk / Violet Mary SMITH b.Sudbury 1900
« on: Thursday 16 February 06 17:37 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Folks,
can anyone give me an idea why I cannot find my grandmother on the 1901 census?
Her mother Adeline Jarvis appears (still using her maiden name) along with Violets sister Mary.
However, neither Violet or her father Frederick seem to be there.
On Violets birth cert it shows her father as being a private in the Cheshire Regiment so perhaps he was away somewhere, but cannot understand why Violet isnt there.
Appreciate any suggestions or possible reasons.

How do I find out information from 1901 to the present time?

Appreciate all replies.

Hi Folks.
I am trying to find a picture of Davis Mansions which I understand stood in New Goulston Street, Spitalfields, and was home to some 1,000 poor Jews. I have tried all the previously suggested sites on Rootschat without success. Thanks for your help. Ken

The Common Room / Davis Mansions

Hi all,
not sure if this is the right section for this question but please be nice if I have made a mistake.

I have found that my G-grandfathers sister (Deborah Foot) married a Saul Solomons. the 1901 census shows them and their children living at 86 Davis Mansions.  Whitechapel. The ecclesiastical area comes under St.Jude.
My question is how do I find the name of the street where Davis Mansions were and if the street still exists?

Thanks for help.
