Durham / Pitt brothers William and Thomas
« on: Wednesday 14 July 21 01:48 BST (UK)  »
Searching for the Births or Census details of Thomas Pitt bc 1820 and his brother William Pitt bc 1822.
They immigrated to Victoria, Australia in 1853, sailing from Glasgow with Williams defacto wife Jane Huggon (nee Dixon) who was born in 1830 at Sunderland, Durham. I have found Jane in the 1851 Census as a Daughter, Servant, Married in her Mothers Inn at Low Street, Sutherland. I can find no trace of the two Pitt brothers in Durham or elsewhere in England. Williams death certificate in Victoria, Australia states his father as William and his biography states he and Jane were both from Sunderland, Durham. They all died in Victoria, Australia. William Pitt was an Artist, painting theatrical backdrops.

New Zealand Completed Requests / Immigration - William SCOTT
« on: Sunday 05 November 17 02:06 GMT (UK)  »
Searching for any information about a Captain William Scott (bc1818) and his daughter Elizabeth (Lucy) Scott (bc 1837 Newcastle on Tyne) who came to New Zealand about 1850/1851 from perhaps England (from his daughters Diamond Jubilee notice in Newspaper).  Do not know if they Immigrated or came in the Army or as a Master Mariner.  I believe he was a storekeeper at Willis Street, Wellington as this is where his daughter was married from. He perhaps remarried to Mary Florence Mitchell in 1851, but this may be the wrong. I believe his 1st wife was Lucy but no sign of her in NZ. His daughter Elizabeth married Rudolphe Marie Martin Joseph de St Laurent in 1857 in Wellington. Looking for proof of Immigration for William and Elizabeth or Army records.

« on: Saturday 08 April 17 07:52 BST (UK)  »
Seeking information about Sylvia May HEAL born unknown NZ about 1912 probably in the Patea area. She married Herman Joseph LAMBERT in 1933 in NZ  Folio 4455 and her last know address was in 1942 at 54 Somme Parade, Wanganui when he enlisted. Two children under 16 yrs were shown on his enlistment. Herman Joseph Lambert supposedly remarried in 1945 to Chrissy Mayzie HOSKIN WILSON. Trying to ascertain Sylvia's - Birth (and parents), Divorce, a remarriage, Electoral mention, or Death of Sylvia or her possible children, a still born male in 1937 is listed, a Stephen, Hazel, Raymond or Margaret (all may not be living in 1942). Many thanks from Australia.

Australia / Johanna JORDAN Free Immigrant 'Fairlie' 1841
« on: Friday 24 February 17 00:53 GMT (UK)  »
Seeking Marriage or Death information regarding Johanna JORDAN bc 1823, Carrigaloyne, Cork, Ireland who arrived on the Fairlie, to NSW as a Dairymaid in Nov, 1841 aged 18 yrs. Believed to have partnered or married Thomas SHEADY (1810-1862) or Sheedy at Galong, Yass District, NSW around 1844. Thomas' 2nd wife (Elizabeth Dempsey) had her first child to him in 1850 so it likely Johanna Jordan had died by then. Elizabeth states on Thomas' death certificate 1862 that he married Johanna Jordan at Galong and one child survives this marriage Mary Ann aged 17 yrs(c1845).

Australia / JOHN DEMPSEY born 1819 Windsor, NSW
« on: Tuesday 29 March 16 08:03 BST (UK)  »
Searching for any information after 1840 about JOHN DEMPSEY son of John and Ann Dempsey of Windsor/Richmond, NSW. Have his Baptism Certificate and clippings about his brush with the law in 1839 at Richmond where he was found not guilty...he then seems to vanish off the face of the earth. He is indicated as dead on his mother's death certificate in 1879. There is a marriage to a CATHARINE MAHONEY in the Wellington District, NSW in 1850 but the information on it shows nothing and surprisingly there are no family trees online with them in it. There is a death in Wagga Wagga 1860 with a John Dempsey age 31 yrs and no other information...John Dempsey would have been 41 yrs. There is a John Dempsey living around Bathurst with a drinking problem and also one at Miserable Flat, 12miles from Wellington around the right timeline. No births of children seem to be registered for a John and Catharine Dempsey from 1845 to 1880. I have been searching for this man for 20 years and would appreciate any clues from anyone. Many thanks

Australia / John Grinstone or Grenstone
« on: Friday 05 July 13 06:41 BST (UK)  »
Seeking information about a convict to New South Wales Colony per 'England' 1835 (sentence 7 yrs) named John Grinstone or Grenstone bc 1815. The only convict records on him are his marriage (3 records in total all marriage) in 1840 to Maria Wallace at Bathurst. He has a Ticket of Leave in 1840. I cannot find him on the convict list for the ship 'England' but it seems he is English and can find no other convict records about him. His wife may have been Maria Baylis(s) b1815, in the Colony, daughter of Joseph Baylis (1770-1855) & Ann 'Nancy' Taylor (1775-1826). Maria Bayliss was first married to convict George Wallace (1806-1838)

Australia / Marriage NSW- Agnes DEMPSEY
« on: Wednesday 23 January 13 00:23 GMT (UK)  »
Seeking marriage information about Agnes Dempsey b 1870 Reg - 10813, Hartley District, (probably Peel) NSW, daughter of Joseph Dempsey & Mary Fitzgibbon. She was still alive in 1900 (on her Father's death certificate as Agnes).
She is wrongly put down as marrying -
Albert G Duffy in 1893, Parramatta, 5946/1893 and dying in 1894 at St Leonards,  Agnes Rose Duffy, (whose parents were John J & Catherine)
Lachlan C Hurley in 8219/1904 Sydney, and dying in 1935 at Granville,  Agnes Hurley, (whose parents were John & Agnes)
The Agnes E Dempsey who marrys Richard Connell in 1913 is her niece.
I cannot find her death, as a single woman, in NSW from 1870-1970 and cannot find her marriage anywhere. The death of Agnes with parents Joseph & Mary are to numerous and can't match up any marriages.
The only name I know her to be recorded as, is Agnes Dempsey. She is not mentioned in any funeral notices of her siblings.
Any possibilities would be welcome.
Cheers
