Clare / TWO JOHN MADDEN'S
« on: Friday 28 February 14 03:19 GMT (UK)  »
John Madden (1) born 1833 Mountshannon, County Clare, Ireland - father Henry Madden and wife,  Grace Long married Hannah Hopkins in 1858,  Maitland N.S.W.  He was sponsored by Benjamin Long and his wife Catherine to Sydney aboard "Admiral Lyons" in 1855 he married Hannah Hopkins in 1858 at Maitland N.S.W.   They had ten children born in Hinton, Maitland, N.S.W.  We know John had one brother, Henry born 1838 in Ireland and came to Australia with John.

John Madden (2) born 1854 Galway, Ireland, - father Patrick and wife Sarah.  Married Hannah Reynolds in 1883 Ireland.  They travelled to Australia aboard "S.S. Cambodia" on 4th April, 1884.
John age 26 years and Hannah 23 years from Donegal, Ireland.   Their first son, Basil Trevor Madden was born 11th June, 1885, Hinton, Maitland N.S.W.

I feel that there must be a relationship between these two John Madden's - why else would they both come from Ireland to live in Hinton, Maitland.
Did John and Henry have another brother who stayed in Ireland?

Both John's and their wives Hannah were resident in Hinton, Maitland, N.S.W.

Durham Lookup Requests / John Robert Fournear COUPER
« on: Friday 18 October 13 22:10 BST (UK)  »
John was born on 1/11/1860 in South Shields.  The family story is that he was a Carpenter and travelled as part of the Crew to Australia.  I found him in the 1881 Census in England then nothing until his marriage in 1886 in New South Wales.
I'm trying to find the ship on which he worked his way to Australia.

Any ideas where to find this information would be gratefully received.
Thank you....

Kent Lookup Requests / FOLKESTONE, KENT, ENGLAND
« on: Saturday 08 June 13 08:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm researching William Ballard who married Elizabeth Wright at St. Mary & St. Eanswythe Church Folkestone, on 16th September, 1771.  Their first son Richard was also Baptised there on 14th February, 1772.
Elizabeth's parents Richard Wright and Margaret Baker were also married there on 6th July, 1755.

The Marriage Entry states that the Banns were read for three weeks prior to their Marriage and that they were both of the Parish.

I have been unable to find any details of William Ballard i.e. date of birth; where; Parents.

Any suggestions where I can look would be greatly appreciated.

« on: Sunday 26 May 13 06:07 BST (UK)  »
William Ballard married Elizabeth Wright on 16/9/1771 at St. Mary & St. Earnswythe Church Folkstone, Kent.  Elizabeth born 14/12/1755,  was the daughter of Richard & Margaret (nee Baker) Wright married 6/7/1755 at the same church.
Margaret Baker born 23/5/1738 is the daughter of Tillot Baker (died 1/5/1784)  and his wife Mary ?Beckett.

William and Elizabeth had a son named Richard in 1772 and a daughter Margaret 1773;  Samuel 1775 .... then gap ... Joseph 1779.

I am trying to find the parents of William Ballard, his date of birth and death. On the Marriage Entry it states that William Ballard, Batchelor, of this Parish, St. Mary & St. Earnswythe, Folkstone.  I have searched many sites looking at Wills but to no avail.
I would also like to trace any further children born to William and Elizabeth.
