Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Help in deciphering entry in baptism record
« on: Wednesday 24 April 24 00:00 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I would like help please in trying to decipher the entry in the month column of the baptism of Catherine Buckley in image attached. (Marked with red)
I have searched for a similar entry in near pages but could not find one. It doesn't seem to be the name of a month. I will give the link to the page so that it can more easily be seen and other pages examined perhaps for clues. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Help please in dating photographs. I am trying to determine if the lady in both photos is my g-g-g-grandmother. The photos are taken in Australia. I realise they are not very clear photos, but an approximate decade would help. I have a thought about the date but won't say as I don't want to "lead" anyone... just to see if another's guess is the same as mine.
There are a number of photos online circulating said to be of this lady - some at a much younger age. I believe a lot of the photos online are not of her, but of her daughter who had the same name, Agnes.

If the date suggested is well past her date of death, (again I don't want to "lead") then obviously it can't be of her...

Unfortunately the photos have been copied and shared so many times that no-one seems to know the provenance of the photos.

Any help appreciated, thanks

Help please with entry no 395 - John Coleman. The first bit under "Disposed of" - looks like Int... I can read the part "to Brisbane Water 31st March 1843."

Also under "Admitted - purpose" it says "Bench Brisbane Water". Can someone please explain what this means? John was a convict (arrived in 1835 ) and was first assigned to Bathurst, then Botany and then Brisbane Waters. He was already at Brisbane Waters from 1839 to 1841. He got his ticket of leave in 1839 and certificate of freedom 18 July 1843. I'm just not sure what this entry in the Darlinghurst Gaol Description and Entry Book means - was it a confinement for another crime or was he simply being transferred from one jurisdiction to another?

Australia / Frederick Lillycroft Lindsay and Frederick Lee
« on: Tuesday 15 April 14 12:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

the link below is most of what I know about Frederick Lillycroft Lindsay other than the fact that he is given as the father of my g-g-grandfather Frederick Lee on his baptismal register. Frederick's mother was the convict Agnes McMillan and Frederick was born 10 Jan 1841 at the Cascades Female Factory and baptised 17 Jan 1841. Once free, Agnes married (or at least was a common law wife of) another convict William Roberts and had several children with him. They left Tasmania and travelled to the Richmond River area via Melbourne and the Victoria goldfields. On the transport register for the ship, Frederick appears listed under the Roberts name, though this was probably just assumed to be the case as he was travelling with the Roberts family. By the time he was married, Frederick had the surname "Lee". Whether this was adapted from his natural father Frederick Lindsay or whether he assumed this name himself is unknown. He also raised his own family under the name Lee and died by the same name. His father was listed as Frederick Lee on his death certificate, but again, Lee was probably the assumed name of his father if the informant didn't know any better. I am desperate to find out more about Frederick Lindsay after his convict days - I did find a shipping record for a Frederick Lindsay from Launceston to Melbourne and a death of a Frederick Lindsay in Victoria in the 1850's but I don't know if it is him. I am also longing to try and find the origin of the Lee name. Anyone with any information or suggestions, gratefully appreciated.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Help please reading word on indenture paper

Help please to decipher the word after " to learn his Art, and with him (after the manner of an Apprentice) to serve, from the day of the date ......"

I think it must be a word of meaning such as "hereunder" or "affixed" in reference to the date which appears at the bottom of the document (not shown here). Just can't quite make it out.

Thanks in advance

Anne

Hello,

Could someone please help with the abbreviation in the column for Profession trade and employment for John Porter and William Selwood. Looks like Sr or Sh? I think it must be some sort of servant but would like clarification if anyone knows for sure, thanks.

Hello,

If someone could help me please (I am in Australia) with any information for a John James Selwood, born 18 Jan 1854 and died age 30 in Myton, Hull, Jun Quarter 1884. I would like to find a more exact date of death and if possible the date and place of his burial. He had a wife Elizabeth A Selwood born abt 1852 who could also possibly be buried with him.

Many thanks
Anne

Help plesse to decipher and explain abbreviation on this baptism register. The part I want help with is after James Iles baptised in 1792. It's the faint part in parenthesis - looks like  (b and c born)  ??? What is it exactly and what does it mean? The date of baptism is 29 Jan 1792. Also I have forgotten what the "P" after bapt means. Thanks!
