Roscommon / JUDGE family in Longford, Roscommon
« on: Friday 13 February 09 02:01 GMT (UK)  »
I am interested in the family name JUDGE. A member of my family named Bernard JUDGE born 1847. Bernard's sister Bridget JUDGE was born in 1833, she was my great great grandmother. Their fathers name was William Judge he was a Laborer. This was on Bridget's wedding certificate in Salford , Lancashire.

The 1881 census for Hulme, Manchester, England lists Bernard as 34 years old and born in Longford, Roscommon Co. Ireland.
Longford was located in Roscommon as being 394 acres in size, (A square mile equals 640 acres) Baroney Castlereagh. Civil Parish Kilkeevin, Province Connaught.
The average-sized townland of Longford lies immediately to the south and southeast of the town of Castlerea, up to and including the Castlerea railway station.  Longford is in Kilkeevin civil parish and Castlerea RC parish. I am told that Longford was smaller than a football field. Please would anyone know anything about Longford . Even better.......... have you come across the name Judge in that area?

My thanks for any help you might be able to give me.

All my best in your own search.

Lanarkshire / Information thats in a birth record
« on: Monday 09 June 08 01:05 BST (UK)  »
I have a few ATKIN relatives who were born around 1871 in Edinburgh and 1873 in Glasgow. Does anyone know if a birth record might include the names of the grandparents?

I ask because the death records in Glasgow gave me the name of the deceased's parents and the mother's maiden name. I just wondered if they might be as thorough with a death certificate?

Kind regards

Lancashire / Street names in Congleton in the 1800's
« on: Wednesday 13 February 08 20:16 GMT (UK)  »
Mikgy,
I saw a request from you re you had some street names you wanted looking up. Sorry I lost your original query, but can I help? Send me the names of the streets. There did not seem that many, Congleton in the mid 1800's looks like its made of back alleys with no names. But there are some  streets etc listed. in 1870 to 1875.

Technical Help / A problem with the Rootschat site
« on: Friday 08 February 08 23:20 GMT (UK)  »
Today I signed in to access Rootschat. It brought me to todays session. My view showed a view I had not seen before, it was one I liked and I thought that Rootschat had perhaps updated the site and were making subject headings a lot more helpful. The site had lots of pages with todays posts and along with each post underneath it, it showed which county it belonged to or which area such as a chat room. This helped me to speedily look for items that might interest me.

I tried to reply to a query about a school location off Warwick street and Denmark road area in Hulme, It was Webster street school. But when I went to another site to locate the Manchester photo archive. Rootschat had disappeared from my screen and the letter I had typed etc was lost. This is frustrating and has happened a number of times while searching on someone else's site for other information that might help the person who posted the query.. In addition, I cannot now open or locate the site with all the mail showing the various counties under the letter subject, etc. I wonder if I am opening the wrong site?

Lancashire / Openshaw near Blackburn, Lancashire
« on: Friday 01 February 08 01:35 GMT (UK)  »
An old police examination File from around 1850 shows one of my  GGgrandfathers a George THORNBER was born in Openshaw near Blackburn. I know there is an Openshaw in Manchester, but has anyone come across the one near Blackburn?

I also had a relative named Charles SPENCER living in Derbyshire who is shown in a couple of census records 1851 and 1861 as born in Openshaw, Lancashire and another shows he was born in Church Bank.

I noticed close to Blackburn is a place named Church and an even smaller place in Church is named Church Bank. But would the Openshaw near Blackburn be close to Church?

My interest was peeked when I located a number of SPENCER names through the IGI site, they were born in the Clayton Le Moors area. This is near Blackburn. A particular group of names was in my Derbyshire SPENCERs . A son named Alexander Spencer with parents Richard and Mary Spencer. Batch number P006751.
My thanks and appreciation for anyone that can help me.
Kind regards

Cheshire / A list of names I am researching.
« on: Monday 24 December 07 19:46 GMT (UK)  »
I am researching a number of names in the Lancashire and Cheshire area and noticed this morning that there is a way for us to include our families names below our name each time we post a message. Hopefully I have changed my format/address to include this and our friendly list members might respond to some of my names.

In the meantime I would like to wish you all an old fashion very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
