Ireland / Irish travellers
« on: Tuesday 12 May 15 01:52 BST (UK)  »
How does one find out any information on someone who was an Irish traveller.  My 2x g. Grandfather, John Peter McCreesh on his marriage certificate lists his father as John McCreesh and occupation as traveller.  Would any record of the travellers have been documented, this would be around 1800 and forward as my G grandfather was born in 1824.   Any help or ideas appreciated, thanks in advance.

Scotland / Duncan 1st
« on: Tuesday 12 May 15 01:37 BST (UK)  »
Just wondering if anyone out there has done any research on the Scottish King, Duncan 1st.  Apparently he is my 33rd great grandfather,  I have gone to the library and found very little info on Jim.  He is the Duncan from Macbeth,  from what I gather Shakespeare's Macbeth was hardly factual and in truth Duncan died in his bed, not murdered as Shakespeare would have us believe.

Armagh / McCreesh
« on: Sunday 27 July 08 16:32 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find where in Ireland my 2X great grandfather John Peter McCreesh came from.  He shows up on the 1841 England census age 14, and his birth place listed as Ireland.  I have no idea what county but I understand that McCreesh is a fairly common name in Armagh.   So just hoping someone researching the family may have him in there tree.  I am guessing birth date of around 1825.

Lancashire / Has anyone seen this name on a gravestone!!
« on: Sunday 27 July 08 03:00 BST (UK)  »
My G. Grandmother  Martha Alice Cottrill, died in 1928, her death was registered in Ormskirk.  I have tried to find out where she was buried with no success.  If anyone has seen her name, or her husbands name, John Herbert Cottrill, on a gravestone anywhere I would be eternally grateful.  When I was in the UK last spring I spent hours wandering around cemeteries in Lancashire looking for them.  Its possible they could be buried in a catholic cemetery as they, or at least he converted, not sure if she did.

Lancashire / Help finding a family on the 1871 census.
« on: Thursday 20 March 08 16:29 GMT (UK)  »
Could someone try and see if they can locate a family on the 1871 census.

I am thinking they would be in the Salford area as that's where they are on all the other census.

Samuel Cottrill  bd 1830, Salford, Lancashire
Sarah  Cottrill  bd 1830, Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire
John Herbert Cottrill, bd 1858, Longsight, Manchester
William Cottrill, bd 1861, Barton on Irwell, Salford.

On the 1861 they are living in Gorton, Samuels occupation is an eccentric engraver.

Thank you in advance.
